Is graduate school in the US a better idea?

For undergraduate, US schools are very expensive. The top schools that are more selective than anywhere in the UK are particularly hard to get into as an international student. Plus they pretty much ignore undergraduates, so you might be better off with the tutorial system at Oxbridge.

US graduate programs, not including professional schools, generally give students free tuition and pay a stipend as a teaching or research assistant. The admissions decisions are generally made by the department, and the criteria are fairly similar to UK undergraduate admissions. Plus with the more specialized UK education, you probably would have an advantage in preparation over US students.
top schools do not ignore you

you're going to compete against the top undergrad students, not the avg undergrad that might be less prepared than the avg UK undergrad

the top undergrads here take graduate courses very early


graduate schools in the United States are way more competitive than their UK counterparts... If anything, it's easier to get into an elite American university as an undergrad


No holistic admissions at Harvard when it comes to admission to their Phd programs
