'Oh, you're a girl gamer?'
'Yeah, I play COD and GTA ))))))'
'...'

If you wanna play that then cool, but it seems like 90% of the girl gamers I know only play those mainstream games. You ever notice that? What could it mean?

Ok but how many guys only play COD/GTA/FIFA yet act like they're some video game maniac? I'm guessing that's a pretty high percentage of guys.

In my experience, most of the male gamers I know (even the ones I don't associate with) do not play those games, or at least play other ones too. The girls I know mainly restrict themselves to those games only.

Is that your experience?

My experience is the guys who play PC games with me play a wide range like I do, but that's only a handful of guys over 7 years of PC gaming.

The ones I met in school and college basically restrict themselves to COD and GTA on console. In fact most guys I've met have cringed at the pure mention of the games I play since they're not the regular mainstream titles.

I suppose one can't conclude one way or the other then. Especially not on anecdotal evidence.

Well tell that to all the girls who still experience comments over them being girl gamers. Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean others aren't affected. A problems a problem, no matter how small.

Boo hoo
Its scientifically proven that boys have better spatial awareness than girls so it makes sense if guys on average are better than girls at games.

Girls and women who play video games are not *girl gamers*, you wouldn't call a boy or man who plays video games a *boy gamer*. They're simply gamers and anyone with any decent sense of maturity recognises this.

That being said the term *girl gamer* often applies to girls who take pictures in a semi-pornographic (if not a fully pornogrpahic matter) for either attention, modelling or media purposes. "Oh look I game, but I'm a girl! Look how unique and quirky I am".... yeah I don't care, I'm going back to Dark Souls.

\[T]/ Praise it
just gonna scrape in and say Gmod is always gonna be the best
Every time a girl gamer thread is made, it gets hundreds of posts in days, anywhere. Just turns into a chatter thread where a load of males battle for her attention with eager chat and emoticons, 'her' being a faceless account on a website.

What do you think is going to happen? You'll become online friends, then she's going to fall in love with you, come visit you for the first time and immediately take your virginity?

You don't need to come on to this thread with your negativity just because your "guy gamers" thread hasn't got as many posts

More than anything I've found that most girl gamers have this pathetic little troupe of drooling ***qbois following ever so closely behind them, laughing at anything they say, and generally brown-nosing them.

It's hilariously sad.

Well the girls that do that are most likely to be the girl gamers who play video games for attention. But it wont be girls who actually play video games because they enjoy them

Honestly, almost every "gamer girl" I've ever spoken to has been in this situation, and they seem to be subconciously oblivious to it, or maybe they just love the attention too much to admit it.

And all the above say "they play games cos they enjoy them" and have done for years
does anyone want to be my girlfriend

Yeah there will be some like that, but there are female gamers who aren't interested in the attention and just enjoy playing the games, like some of the female YouTubers
I'm not going to read the responses to this thread as I can already hazard a guess as to what crap has been posted.

Its often thought that girls aren't as good on COD or other video games as boys are. I disagree with this and it annoys me when boys believe that girls cant be better than them and it also annoys me that girls are sometimes criticized over the fact they may play video games as it is seen as a boy thing?

It's mostly seen as a boy thing, I believe. I personally don't view it as such, and statistically there's a good percentage of females that make up the gaming population, but from my own personal experiences it is generally men that are gamers. I have many male gaming friends, the majority of people I see at conventions are male and the vast majority of people I encounter whilst playing games online are male. Why is this? I don't know. Maybe there's a stigma to being a girl gamer that I am unaware of? Maybe girls tend to keep their gaming lives private? Maybe girls don't actively communicate online in case of harassment/bullying? I met a handful of girls when I used to do competitive gaming many years ago, but they were few-and-far between. To my knowledge I very rarely encounter a girl gamer.

In regards to skill, that's a load of shite. Just like with anything, you get what you put into it, meaning if you put more hours into a game than someone else generally speaking you will be better at it due to experience/muscle memory/knowledge. I've played with girl gamers who were better than me at certain games, and other games were I completely thrashed them.

Girl gamers are amazing, and they shouldn't be afraid to play video games for whatever reason. Oh how I miss having a gaming girlfriend.
