OCR Sociology - G671 (2016)

I'm sadly having to retake G671 as I got an A in G672 and a C in G671, which averaged out to a B. This year as well as G673 and G674, I'm retaking G671 to get my grade up to an A.

So, I thought I would create this thread for anyone who is retaking to discuss predicted questions and share resources as I have searched high and low for my AS textbook but can't find it.

Why not try posting in a specific subject forum- you might have more luck there.

Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses.

does anyone have any predictions for the questions in this paper? will it all be focused on social class or maybe just the 24 mark question?

Hi! I am also retaking! I think the 52 marker may be on sampling or interviewing technique. There is a good example of one written here- http://ncsociology.weebly.com/socialisation--identity
Am I wrong to assume that maybe the 24 or 16 marker could be on social class because the pre-release is?
anybody else got any other predictions?!

I saw that post on that website too but do you think it's possible that they will base the 52 mark question on sampling methods? I hope they don't. I hope it's on semi-structured interviews instead. I think the spec says that you don't need to have a lot of knowledge of sampling methods, but I'm not too sure. I don't know what the other questions would be related to because it seems unpredictable looking at past papers tbh.

I there is fair chance the 52 marker could be on sampling methods, due to the fact there is more to write about rather than with interviewing methods. However, it still could be interviewing methods.

I don't know tbh, I think it would be harder if it was just related to the sample and the sampling methods, you'd have to go into a lot of detail. There's also a lot of things you can mention if it was about just semi-structured interviews too.

The more detail, the better and more marks

what would the 8,16 and 24 marker be on. any predictions???
Hi

Can someone please help me,on what to write for this question

'Identify and explain two ways the workplace creates and reinforces gender identities '
Hi, does anyone remember the exam questions from the G671 paper last year? Thanks x
This would be a 16 mark right?

So you'd talk about how the workplace creates a masculine culture through the conversations of sport or displaying page 3 pictures around the work area. Then about women say they are expected to do jobs like bar work so they'll look attractive and tolerate sexual innuendos. To evaluate say that some women neglect the sexualisation of their job.

Hi, thanks for youe help! Those examples are very useful but how would i phrase/develop those points in my answer? (Sorry if this question seems annoying)
hi, could you separate it into formal social control and informal social control? Formal control would include for example how the dress code differs for men and women and maybe how the nature of employment for men and women typically differs (between manual and service sector). I'm not sure if that helps x

The 8 marker was norms. The 16 marker was about masculinity and the 24 marker was about religion and identity (or the 16 and 24 marker could have been the other way around) ...bur it was something like that

Religion was the 16 marker and masculinities the 24 marker. I think id have a heart attack if I had to answer 24 marker on religion.
Hey, i'm also retaking G671 this year too! My lecturer (who isn't the greatest to be honest) seems to think that it will be based around whether or not semi-structured interviews are the best method for studying motherhood and child care. To me that sounds more like the 24 mark but when i told her that she was more or less adamant that it will be the 52 marker. I hope this helps, good luck guys!
