any predictions on the 12 markers?

My class went through all the sociology papers and the questions. Looking at them, we found a trend which was usually about types of family. We are expecting it to come up since it came up 4 times in the past. Also, changes in family and relationship came up a couple of time.

Rojda said before that on every 1 out of the 2 12 markers in every paper for education it asks about a factor that affects educational achievement, so i'm guessing it WILL come up

Also, the trends our class found for education were :

Social class, changes in education

Thanks . By changes in education do you mean the legislation and stuff?

Hello!
Yes, we were wondering what keywords might come up. Hoping education is about labelling and stuff like that. 4 mark question on families might be about the different types? I really don't know! Haha...Good luck!

Yeah I hope for education they ask about labelling, self fulfilling prophecy etc

this is something my teacher said may come up, but then again my teacher is pretty useless but i mean :
- marketisation of education - which is schools being run like businesses eg. league tables
how would you answers these questions?
Identify one ethical issue that you may need to consider and explain how you could deal with this issue in your investigation.(4)

Explain one way in which sociological research might help the Government and/orschools design policies to reduce the number of children being bullied.

My teacher taught my class to talk about the education acts which happened. Like the 1999 New Labour Education Policies act.

Introduced the literacy and numeracy hours in primary schools to improve the standards.
EMA was introduced to encourage students to stay further in education
Tuition fees for university were also introduced

Try to get advantages and disadvantages. Also, another good one (i think its called) new curriculum 2000.

Other acts you can research are :
The 1988 education reform act
1944 Education Act

I would advise knowing the 1999/2000 ones in case it asks for the last 15 years

Nice to see that someone else takes Sociology for GCSEs! Atm revising Studying Societies. Unit 2 is way too hard! :frown: I just hope the 12 markers are do-able.

Can't believe it's on Monday.
That's like in 2 days...
*Starts panicking*

same i hope i can do it,
12 markers are the best way to get marks you've lost with 5 markers or 6 markers.
for 12's just always remeber to follow the PEEE method - point, evidence, explanation, evaluation
1st sentence: explain what you're going to say (don't drag it on(
evidence: include a sociologists study or just a perspective that agrees with statement, MAKE EXPLANATION AS OF HOW IT LINKS BACK TO THE QUESTION
Evaluation: say why the point is useful to sociologists and why others may criticise it ...
the tricky part is explaning how far, my teacher to never say to a certain extent or things like that because it doesnt mean anything. you have to say do all sociologists agree with the evidence, why they criticise it, and why others support it.
you answer the how far but saying which of the 2 sociologist perspectives you mentioned agree with it more, for example marxists or the new right.
introduction: explaining and defining the question
first paragraph: mention sociologists that agree with the statement
second: agree
third: sociologists that disagree
forth: disagree
fifth: conclusion, remember to always conclude your essay whether its 2 lines or 5 lines, remember not to say your opinion and explain what majority of the evidence is saying...

dont mind me if there are hella typos, im too busy stressing, but good luck to you!!!

Was wondering if anyone had any predictions regarding what is likely to come up on the 2016 Sociology papers - both Studying Society; Education; Families and Crime and Deviance; Mass Media; Social Inequalities.
Thanks!

I feel like the 12 markers are really easy to gain marks on, you're not even required to state any sociologist's names, just their idea or theory. What gets the mark is stating "how far" they agree (strongly agree, partially disagree).

I'm more worried for what comes in the 4 and 5 mark questions because I find it so hard to remember key words!

What's a social cohesion

.when a society is based on a social cohesion, the different individuals and groups that make up society are united into a body of citizens rather than being divided by conflicting interests'

I constantly see this on the mark schemes too..

For example for the following question: "Discuss how far sociologists would agree that marriage is no longer important in modern British society (12 marks)" (The following answer is 10/12 according to my sociology teacher)

Feminists would strongly agree with the statement as they believe that women are capable of doing things without the restriction of marriage. This could be due to the fact that the law and attitudes to women in society have changed and become less patriarchal. In modern day society women are no longer required to rely on spouses for income and it is now more openly acceptable for women to gain an education and pursue a career. Because of this, the need for marriage is no longer as significant. Women who want to stay in committed relationships now have alternative options which were not accepted in previous societies. An example of this would cohabitation, so women would not necessarily have to be in a marriage in order to hold a relationship. Therefore feminists strongly agree with the statement.

Functionalists would strongly disagree with the statement as they deem the position of marriage in society to be very high. This is because families are responsible for reproduction. The typical nuclear family is favoured by functionalists as married couples hold the function of reproducing in order to keep society living on. The new members of society would then be socialised and conformed to the functionalist way of life. As the nuclear family is a vital function in society, marriage is also highly regarded so functionalists would strongly disagree with the statement.

Marxists would partially agree with the statement as they believe marriages reinforce the inequality in society. This is because those higher up in the social stratification system are more likely to marry those of similar social standing, leaving those who are at the bottom of the social hierarchy to marry into the same lower social class, thus, trapping them at the bottom of the social pyramid. This is why Marxists would say marriage is unfair and unimportant.

Overall, both Marxists and feminists would both agree on the fact that marriage is no longer important in modern society however functionalists would disagree with them and disagree with the fact marriage is unimportant.

I am panicking that it is in two days!
Never hear of many people taking GCSE Sociology...On here, I keep seeing A level stuff when looking for GCSE comments!

Best thing to do is to not panic, drink a hot cup of milk and get a good nights rest. Good luck.
