English Language GCSE Grade And University

I am struggling to achieve above a C grade in my English Language GCSE. I know that Universities accept a minimum of a C in English Language, however if I wanted to go to a Russell Group University, would they still accept me if I only achieved a C or would they expect more?

Depends on the university, i believe there are some which accept a C.
