Is (UK) size 8 fat or chubby for someone who is 5'2"?

Hi,

There's girls 8 inches taller than me that are the same clothes size as me. It makes me feel like dumpy and like it's impossible for me to look elegant or sexy in this state :frown:

I'm usually a size 6 but it's getting a bit tight on me I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a solid size 8 in bottoms soon. I've gone from 104lbs to 109lbs in the past month due to not going to gym and exams. There's girls 8 inches taller than me that are the same clothes size as me. It makes me feel like dumpy and not elegant. a

Is size 8 and weighing nearly 110lbs for a short woman chubby? I feel like I should be more like 95lbs for my height. I feel really uncomfortable like my body is just carrying too much right now and I have pudge on my belly and legs it can't be healthy.

Anyway, just wanted some opinions. Thanks.

You should really go to the doctor to get a therapist to speak to about this, not the internet.

My ex was about 5' and a size 8 - and she definitely wasn't fat. You sound about right, weight-wise.

Size eight is tiny! Seriously, you're totally fine, even small for your height 109lbs is just within your height boundaries, if you were any less you'd be too skinny. You're slim, and fine how you are

I am seeing a doctor and I'm near the top of the waiting list for a specialist unit. Thing is they can't be brutally honest about my body.
If you're already feeling uncomfortable with your size then I'm not sure anybody here could persuade you any differently. However, I must say, for your height you do not sound "chubby." My ex girlfriend was shorter than you and the same weight and she did not look "chubby", more curvy, actually. And I don't mean that as a euphemism for "chubby" - I got warned about that plenty by her. But she always used to worry herself silly about her weight as well and still does, and I always used to tell her it was unnecessary.

But as they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

If you, like her are dissatisfied with how you look then maybe you should go back to the gym to make yourself feel better and shed the weight that's giving you worries, but know that from you've said it doesn't sound as if there's any need to be dissatisfied with yourself.

At that height I don't think it's awfully slim. Can you post a pic?

what do you expect to be, wearing children's clothing ?
Perfect size for that height IMO.

Not at all! Im 5'4 and im a size 8 too. At times I feel the same way you do and its difficult to overcome these feelings, but dont feel like you have to be a certain weight for other people. Its easier said than done not to compare yourself to others, but stay proud - you're at a good weight! X

Thanks for your reply. I think ou've hit the nail on the head now skipping the gym has made me lose my confidence and try to control in in harmful ways. It's not just the toning up that helps me in the gym it also gives me a sort of state of meditation which really helps me.

It's interesting about the meaning of 'curvy'. I always thought I was curvy but some people say I have 'no meat' on me, some say 'you're not too thin', I've had a guy say I have 'thick legs' and others say 'you need to eat more, you're wasting away'. So I guess some people think I'm just right and others think I could stand to lose or gain a couple of pounds. I suppose it can be pretty subjective as to what's curvy and what's slim. I think you can be curvy at any size and not curvy at any size it's to do with proportions. I sometimes wish I just fit clearly into the skinny box.

Not exactly. But nowadays most of the school girls on the bus are taller than me. So I'm probably the height of a 12/13 year old girl :s-smilie:
What? Why does it matter if you're chubby or not?
I'm not one of those anti-body shamer people, but your BMI puts you in the 'healthy weight' category.
If you are going to keep thinking negative, then you'll just feel worse about yourself.

I'll leave now.
*crawls back to corner of the room to cry*
No.
how old are you ?

Thanks that's reassuring .I love my fashion and clothes which really helps with my body image. I don't think I've ever felt sexy in my life even in clothes that might be deemed provocative to some.
