There are really good notes on psychbug.co.uk on all the topics of approaches. I used them for my exam today and they helped alot

Hi everyone. I have looked through all of the specimen papers for the new spec and I am scoring low on application (Ao2) questions. Has anybody got any tips and advice to help me score highly?

AO2 questions are asking for application of knowledge. You won't get any marks for AO1 or AO3.

They usually give a scenario and you need to explain that scenario with information that you know, picking out certain aspects of the information given.

EG, the scenario describes a young child's behaviour as being ambivalent towards its carer on their return and it's bothered about a stranger.
Your knowledge is the Strange Situation and attachment types, you'd then have to explicitly show the link between the information given and your knowledge/explanation. (ambivalent behaviour would suggest that the child has a resistant attachment and shows no stranger anxiety.)
I was wondering if anyone had any tips or exemplar answers for the Approaches essays?

I feel like the biological approach could come up as a 12 or 8 marker in the exam as I think it was the only approach that wasn't in the specimen papers as an essay? Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Yeah I think it will be the biological approach for explaiing and treating OCD maybe :biggrin:

I meant in the Approaches section, not Psychopathology, since in the specimen paper there were questions like 'Outline and evaluate the social learning theory approach' in the Approaches section and I'm really not good at those questions :frown:

But yeah something like the biological approach for explaining and treating OCD will probably come up too, or something similar

It will most likely be a cognitive approach 8/12 marker then a biological approach to treating/explaining ocd, cognitive to explaining and treating depression has come up and they wouldn't put a biological approach with another biological approach question
