This country is being torn apart by conservative cretins who think they know everything, hell-bent on taking us 100 years back in the past.

Michael Gove dragged our education system kicking and screaming back in time. There was no scientific basis for it - in fact, the scientific evidence, and real world experience - tells us that our economy would be better-off with a more liberal system. It was based purely on the whims of Gove and his followers, because it was better "back in their day". We spent millions of pounds to cater to the nostalgic urges of some old farts, and the education of our children is suffering because of it.

Theresa May, who has a degree in Geography of all things, decided that she's qualified to make complex technical decisions. She is introducing her "Snooper's Charter", a new piece of legislation which will violate our privacy by forcing Internet Service Providers to keep a log of EVERY connection our computers make. She claims that this will "reduce terrorism", even though computing experts and even top intelligence officials disagree, and say that all this will actually do is put our information at great risk - but of course, the old generation knows best, so she's been applauded by elderly technophobes. What most people don't know, though, is that Theresa, with her degree in geography, severely underestimated how much it would cost to implement this legislation. The cost could actually end up as high as £2 billion. While we sit here bitching about the EU taking our money, we're spending billions on laws that don't do anything.

But it seems that wasn't enough uninformed meddling for our government. They've now decided to introduce forced age verification for porn sites on the internet. How? Nobody knows - the government certainly don't, but they'll spend billions trying! Why? To appeal to some lazy mums who can't be arsed to monitor their own children's web activity, but who want their children to grow up to be miserable, sexually repressed conservatives just like they are! Fortunately the Conservatives have already been taking steps toward protecting us from the vile act of sex by banning an arbitrary list of sex acts in porn such as "female ejaculation", and forcing internet service providers to block porn by default so those lazy mums need to do EVEN LESS PARENTING!

The Tories' recent shenanigans include amending the contracts given to scientists so that they're unable to lobby for policy change with the results of their research. So don't expect to hear anything negative about fracking in the future - our government is protecting us from science! Of course, the Daily Mail won't report on this. And even if they did, nobody would care, because it seems that most British voters don't believe in science.

And let's not forget the "Psychoactive Substances Act", another legislative masterpiece hand-crafted by the great Theresa May. For decades we've been prevented from treating people with PTSD, depression, anxiety and other psychiatric illnesses due to draconian drug laws. We've been filling up our prisons with decent people. And an overwhelming amount of recent research shows that these drug laws don't actually affect how many people take drugs. But the British populace know better than to believe all that science mumbo jumbo! We've decided that the Psychoactive Substances Act is a great idea. A law that literally bans all drugs. Not a list, it just bans everything that affects the brain (except nicotine and alcohol, which together kill 106,000 people per year - but they're not evil like drugs). It makes scientific research EVEN HARDER, and the exact same legislation was tried in Ireland and it INCREASED DRUG USE! But forget about the stats, we know what we're doing.

These uninformed old morons are running this country into the ground. Young, educated people need to start voting.

Why should young and idealistic voters with no experience be able to vote?

Ohh so these are facts are they?

Sure, I don't agree with what a lot of this government is doing either to be honest and I actually agree with you about things like scientists lobbying for policy changes based on research and porn blocking, but what has the majority of your rant got to do with some "old farts".

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just because you think your opinion is more righteous than others, it doesn't make your opinion more glorious than anyone else's, hence the term "opinion". And blaming some "old farts" for the introduction for the snooper charter doesn't sound great in the way of validity surely?

It's a fact that the Snooper's Charter will cost billions, it's a fact that drug laws don't stop people from using drugs, it's a fact that we're decades behind where we should be with psychiatric treatment due to draconian drug laws, it's a fact that the new education system is less effective. Yes, these are facts.

It has nothing to do with my opinion being "righteous". I'm not even referring to my opinion. Do you think your (or my) opinion on drug policy is as valid as the opinions of a global commission of medical researchers? That's exactly the ridiculous type of thinking that I'm talking about. Some people simply don't know what they're talking about, they're uninformed, they aren't qualified, and their opinions are less valid.

The Earth is flat. You have to respect that because it's, like, my opinion. I think we need new laws to limit how far ships can travel in case they fall of the edge of the Earth. Just my opinion. Can you respect that please?

No, because they're more likely to agree with a scientific consensus instead of voting based on their own arrogant "opinions".

Which, of course, is why in your OP you boast about the scientifically proven merits of a liberal economy, and yet vote to remain in the most regulated economy on the planet because of your personal feelings rather than reason.

Your whole first post is full of your own opinions which you are foolishly dressing up as fact. I've seen many of your boards where you do this. Your issue is always that other people, be it the old, the right wing, or the leave voters, do not interpret events and public affairs in the same way as you and therefore do not come to the same conclusion as you. There is no right or wrong answer, but you are assuming there is, and that you have the right answer along with anyone who agrees with you. That is all opinion, not fact.

I was referring to a liberal education system.

It's a fact that oppressive drug laws do not lower drug use but prevent drug research. It's a fact that liberal education systems produce better problem-solvers and critical thinkers. It's a fact that the Snooper's Charter will cost billions and put our information at risk.

My issue is with people that disagree with a scientific consensus and think they know better, and that because they're entitled to an opinion they don't need to do any research or even thinking. It's the height of arrogance and stupidity. Regardless of what you think of me, at least I'll change my views if a scientific consensus tells me I'm wrong. That makes me less arrogant than most of the people in this country.

Maybe, maybe not. But what makes you feel remotely qualified to make such statements? In other words who are you? Waht the f*** have you ever done buddy?

Yes, they are facts, it's not what I was referring to, I was referring to your uncalled for comments generalising an entire generation of being "uninformed, old farts". But please yourself if you must.

...and where do "Old people" come into this? The worst part is that you do actually have a point, and some facts to back them up, but you decided to mix your opinion into it, with nasty comments like the ones I refer to above. But oh don't worry about someone like myself, I'm just uneducated of course... anyone that argues against anything you say is just "simply wrong". If that isn't ignorance, I clearly don't know what is...

There are plenty of polls, all saying old ppl are more inclined towards LEAVE when most young people vote REMAIN but choose not to vote.

This isnt disputed and it is fact, youre just naive and not well informed. I suggest you google it.
When young people start actively voting, then they can complain about not being represented enough.

Old people make up the majority of the Tories' voters. I didn't generalise an entire generation, just the particular conservative individuals of that generation that these policies are designed to appeal to.

No, people can argue against me and not be wrong. But people who argue against a scientific consensus, with nothing to support their stance other than "it's my opinion", are wrong. Why is that so hard for us to accept?

If you vote Conservative you're either rich or stupid. I can read the Tories like a book! David Cameron is planning to raise tuition fees? Hmmmm, I wonder if that is because he wants to deter ordinary people from going to university, because he doesn't want them to grow, because he wants to widen the gap between the rich and the poor...

Where are your sources for any of these 'facts', who is writing these sources, and what is their bias? You seem to believe every piece of 'research' you see that goes alongside your view.

I think a lot of people on the left are equally uninformed. I have spoken to many people who want to vote remain who have never heard of the EFTA, Schengen agreement, don't know the difference between the EU and the ECHR, or even the ECtHR. Misinformation and a lack of self educating on political issues is not a problem that the right alone suffers from, and I think you are very arrogant if that is what you are suggesting.

I also notice that your view on what qualifies someone to make a decision seems to vary a lot. Here you seem to be implying that only people who are going along with scientific consensus are correct. A few weeks ago you said only people with at least A levels are qualified to make any decisions. So what is it, you need to have A levels and agree with the status quo? Because if so, again, that is your opinion and you want people only to agree with your view - which is that scientific consensus is the be all and end all, and should be the basis for all political opinions.

I haven't disputed this anywhere, and I have already acknowledged in at least one post on this particular thread that young people are more likely to agree with the OP i.e. young people will be leftie voting remain types, so I suggest you learn how to read before you comment.
