I'm in a similar position with my girlfriend (she doesn't know where she'll be). But I think I'll be looking for a house share too I guess. I don't think I've ever been to Nottingham but I've heard its nice!

Turns out my boyfriend probably won't find out until late September where he's going to be based, so looks like I'm looking for a house share :')

yes, that's true. This is my second year applying. I only apply for clinical engineering every time because I cannot even find anything any similar in any other specialisms to give as a second option. Wish you all the best and hoping to hear some good news soon.
Hey Guys!
I am currently finishing my placement year of my degree and going into my final year (stage 4) of Human Biosciences. I am really interested in the Genomics programme however I have noticed that there is obviously A LOT of competition for this. I was just wondering what people have done to strengthen their applications? And are my chances reduced as I will apply for 2017 straight out of my Bachelors degree?

I have already completed a Placement in Molecular Neurogenetics for one Year in the Netherlands, and I also have written my own publication for the American Journal, but I am not sure whether this will be enough reading all of these threads!!!! It feels like time is running out for me to get any more experience further to this.

Also, when will all the open days be ran for next year?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi! Yes it is competitive but do not feel it is impossible - lots of people do get accepted straight out of university and your placement year will stand you in good stead too. If you can get any NHS experience/visit some departments that will impress them too and show your commitment to the scheme.

The open days are usually in January, though start checking the NSHCS website from November onwards for information.

Good luck!

Hi all!

After 3 years of applying I have been offered Genomics at Manchester! I cannot believe it!
I imagine the reserves might hear more as the offers expire at about 12.20 so then they'll be able to move things around.

I don't suppose anyone reading this is going to be the other trainee at Manchester? It would be nice to say hello before September!
Best of luck to everyone else who is still to get an offer! x

Hi Katie,

Congratulations for your offered position in Manchester! I got offered a position in Genomics there too! It's great to have found the other trainee before starting the position. I am looking forward to meeting you and working together. Have you heard anything from Manchester yet? I'm still waiting, but hopefully will hear soon.

Hi Sebastian!

I'm pleased to have found you on here. Well done!

I doubt we will hear anything for a little while yet. I think there are employment checks to do first. I don't think they'll know we are their trainees yet. I've heard from the current trainees that they will want to get us in to see the department and meet in July! Do you live in manchester already?xo.
Hi Katie,

Thank you for the information, it's good to know a rough time frame. I'm excited about moving and starting the STP. At the moment I'm living in Norwich and will move to Manchester before the start. Did you have a chance to speak with current trainees in Manchester specifically? Will you have to move far to start your training post?

Ah okay, do you know of anyone else who got a place at Nottingham? We could possibly look at sorting a house share between the Nottingham trainees?

I work and live in Sheffield so I dont have too far to move which is good! I'm originally from Scotland so it will be nice to move nearer home!
I've been in touch with the current manchester trainees and they've been really helpful! It sounds like a great place to live and train! xo.
Hey guys, has anyone been able to find out the university that is providing the Genomics course for 2016 trainees? I know it hadn't been announced a while ago and still can't seem to find it.

I'm an overseas MBBS holder, am highly interested in life science STP program. I've never met someone within the program or intending to apply to it. Please I need any information or tips regarding how to apply, what type of experience do I need, any courses/diplomas/masters needed, how to prepare for the online psychometric test, how to prepare for the interview ??? most importantly can an international graduate apply, and if yes is there any extra enquiries ??? Thank you

Hey, is it that not referring to the old clinical bioinformatics course that used to be titled genomics? I might be wrong, the changes to the course names have confused me haha
