How to get an A* in A Level Maths after getting a C in year 12?

Hi guys,

I do the OCR Maths board and I basically did not revise for Maths a level last year (I know...really bad) so I ended up getting a C overall with 80 UMS in C1, 37 in C2 and 67 in S1.

For my A2 modules, I am doing C3, C4 and M1.

I retook C1 the other day and I have been working hard at C2 papers to get it to an A grade. However, assuming I get 80 in C1 and 90 in C2 and I leave the 67 UMS in Stats, what would I have to get in my remaining modules to get an A*?

Should I retake stats and revise hard for it? :/ I'm just soooo stuck!

Thanks guys!

To get an A*, you need to achieve at least 180 UMS total for C3 and C4, for example 90 in C3, 90 in C4 or 100 in C3, 80 in C4 and so on.

You also need an A grade overall, which is 480 UMS out of 600 (80%). Taking this into account:

480 - (C3 + C4) - C1 - C2 - S1
480 - (180) - 80 - 90 - 67 = 63 UMS in your other module M1.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much! Do you think it is worth revising S1 or should I just leave it and revise hard for M1 instead?

It might be worth it; if you get a lower mark than the previous then the highest mark will still be taken for your A Levels. However you probably have not done statistics revision in a while, so it might be a lot to cram in especially with your other exams.

If you can fit it in, then it might be worthwhile, however if you do just make sure that you can cope with the extra workload and can continue to revise for the other exams

This is wrong. He got 37 in c2 not 90. He would need 116 in m1. Which is impossible

He is repeating C2 and assuming he achieves 90 this time

A*
Hey. I'm in a similar situation. I got 79 in C1, 70 in C2 and 38 in M1. It's going to be impossible unless you are redoing C2, and even then it will be very hard. I'm personally redoing C2 and M1, and I am not expecting more than a B.
