Indicies C2 Question help?

So like many, I'm studying for my C2 exam (Edexcel) this Wednesday coming. I've done well so far but I came across this one question in the book that has really stumped me. I mean I could solve it using logarithms, but since logs haven't been introduced at this stage in the book, I presume there is an alternative to solve it. Any suggestions or help? Thanks! (Just part A of question).

yes it's easy

for A for example
let 3x=y3^x=y then solve as a quadratic

This can also be used for equations like e^2x + ... + .. = 0 or something like that. You can substitute in something (u=3^x) and notice that u^2 = (3^x)^2 = 3^2x.
