What did you guys put for describing one way police/gov have tried to reduce youth crime/deviance? I don't remember the exact question but I wrote about ASBOs and such :h:

Also did anybody do the first 12 marker in social inequality? The one about government policies in the last 30 years to reduce child poverty. If so, I wrote about the culture and cycle of deprivation and educational reforms etc.. couldn't really think of any government policies :/

all in all I think that the test was pretttttty decent

I also wrote about ASBOs. I picked meritocracy since it was easier and I was running out of time. I think I got an A* or A

Omg what did you write about the meritocracy one?

I had two for: -everyone can go to school, the national curriculum encouraging equality, if they work hard they can do well in school
- laws that prevent discrimination (sex and race discrimination act) and how everyone can progress as discrimination won't be a problem

However: - it is hard to prove if you have been discriminated against as the employers can make up an alternative excuse so meritocracy is limited
- the 'glass ceiling' etc..

Is this fine?

That sounds super detailed, you shouldn't worry at all. I wrote the essay similar to you except I talked about Marxism on the other side and contrasted open/closed societies and achieved/ascribed status e.g. The royal family as an example against meritocracy.

yeah they are

I wrote about how ASBOs deter others but the problem is that some young people will wear it as a status of honour. But I think it'll be fineeeeeee because the mark schemes are really super vague on these things so as long as it applies, we're ok lmao

OMG i put about CCTVs controlling monitoring their actions and that they can be given sanctions or get scared of committing crime - is that wrong?!
did anyone do the second 12 marker on mass media-what did you put about the agency of social control?

don't worry!! the mark scheme is really vague and its open for interpretation by the examiner so as long as it applies, I suspect you'll get some marks for it!! although I believe CCTV surveillance is a way to reduce crime overall, so you might have had to be specific about how it targets youth crime. The bit where you said sanctions is like reprimanding them so you defo got into the top band for marks 😊

Oh ****, i did talk about the uses and gratifications approach but i talked about norm referencing, political solicitation as it shows us what values we should have and gender socialisation :frown: .
For the argument against i wrote about how there are other agencies of social control such as families, schools and judiciary.

i said how it can be an agent of social control because of the hypodermic syringe model

then said it is limited in its role to be a form of social control because of uses and gratification and decoding theory

if i had time i would've written about how functionalists think the judiciary is the most influential form of social control because it has formal sanctions whereas media doesn't
