Whats your budget?
corsas are almost always for people who cannot drive, look at most corsas on the road. either they are significantly damaged by stupid driving or driven by idiot boy racers who think they look cool in their pokemon car. not to mention ridiculously unreliable = expensive

golf is best choice, stylish, comfortable, reliable and enough pep to take you through motorways. fuel economy is always good too.

seats are stylish enough, but ive heard a lot of horror stories regarding reliability.

golf is the best choice by far.

Thats a bit of a generalisation.
I dont drive one myself, but quite a few of the ones ive seen have driven decently. I also know quite a few people who drive one, and they havent had any trouble with theirs, so they arent as reliable as you make out.

Why are you choosing those cars?

The reasons that I would choose a car may be different to the reasons you would choose a car.

For example, for me, I would choose a car based on:
Comfortable seats
Soft suspension
Cruise control and driving aids
Automatic gearbox
Large boot space
Fuel economy
Low tax
Gadgets such as USB charging, WIFI hotspots etc.

Why are you looking at crappy hatchbacks like all the other sheep for starters?

Rule out the Corsa here and now! Choosing the Corsa out of the other 2 is a bit like choosing putrid piss over over tea or coffee.
Whatever your choice, you're going to want one with LED Lighting. Sadly, everyone has LEDs nowadays, and if you buy a car with regular old halogens or incandescents, it's like being blinded as soon as everyone else puts their lights on! To be fair, LEDs are also pretty reliable, and they do help you see more of the road at night, so there's that bonus too. I'd also reccomend getting something with a bit of height to spare so that everyone isn't bearing down on you like a brick wall - the Golf is ideal for this.

I've yet to get a car of my own, but I've got similar ideas to the cars you've chosen.
something sturdy which would not crumple like a coke™ can in a minor collision.

What would be the alternatives, other than a hatchback?
Classic cars! Cheaper insurance, rarer, actually repairable.
