UN-OFFICIAL MARK SCHEME.
Of what I can remember..

1. b) a=2
2. b) x=-0.861
c) reflection in y-axis
3. a) 3x^-1/2 - 1
b) y=6
c) y + 2x = 13
d) k = 5.5
4. b) d = -2, a = 28
c) Sum to 21 - sum to 3. Can't remember exact.
5. b) area = 19.9
c) perimeter = 13.8 (something like that)
6. a) 65.6
b) i) translation (0,5)
ii) stretch in X-direction 1/3 sf
7. b) -1648
8. b) can't remember! Tan(X) = 1 and tan(X) =-5/4
c) lowest = 2, when theta = pi
9. a) c^(m/2 +6n)
b) X = 5/2

I think I got the same for all. 9 was 3^(m/2 -6n)

For 4 U12 was 6
And I think I got -336 for one question

Don't remember the answer but the method i used was to half the area of triangle and then use that to find radius by the area of sector then subbed r into equation of arc length then found perimeter. It was an easy 6 marks. and i did get radius in decimal so the answer was in decimal as well

ohhh thats how you do it, i was completely stumped by that question :frown: i just wrote area of triangle and half it and i couldnt do the rest...now i feel really stupid :s-smilie:

I got:

65.6 for the trapezium rule question
6 for U12 near the end
and for the sigma question at the end I got 90???

anyone get any of these

All the same

You're answers to 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9B) seem familiar but not 9 or 4 :/
Think I got a=-28 for 4)b and d=34
I though 9)a) was 3^(n/12m) (possibly with m and n the other way round)

Wow that's extremely frustrating >.> I worked out the arc length aswell just didn't add it. Likely 5 marks for method atleast :L

Did anyone else get the binomial expansion answer as something like -1000 something it was like -1280 idk tho something around there?

Same here. Something like -1260 or -1280.
What does everyone think the grade boundaries will be like? Lower or higher than last year?

For a c2 test i found that pretty easy so I'd assume they'll go up

I got same for 4 as in unofficial MS and for 9 there was a number instead of c which i think was 3

i think it may be just a bit higher than last years

I think it should be m/2 -6n as when you divide you take away powers?

For the 3(x^3 + 1)^1/2 translation, I took the 3 into the square root and times it all by factor nine, this gave me stretch in X direction sf 1/9??

Why did you get tan(X)=1 and tan(X)=-5/4 for 8b? I only got tan(X)=-5/4 and got 2 solutions from it

Oh crap I got c^m/2 -6n :/

I think it was -6n, because it's a division, right??

I got like ~3.41 for the arc length for the triangle and something like ~5.86 for r. I think you had to say that 1/2 r^2 x = 19.9(area of triangle)-1/2 r^2 x, therefore r^2 x = 19.9. You already know x, so substitute it in and get r^2 to be ~34 and r = 5.86 ish. Final perimeter should be about 13.7 or 13.8 depending on how you've rounded in the question.

Of course, I could be completely wrong

No, i got that too

Because one of the brackets that the question gave was (1-tanx), therefore tanx =1 is a thing

the question gave us a factorised quadratic so in first (1-tanx) it was one solution and the other one you had to sub in tanx=-5/4 from previous question and equal it to zero therefore 2 solutions from each so 4 in total
