AQA Statistics S1B Exam - 25/05/2016

Share tips, advice etc for the S1B statistics exam tomorrow!

This is an overview on what could come up:

Averages and Spread
Calculate mean, median, mode, range and interquartile range. standard deviation or variance (from either a string of numbers, a table)
** May need to calculate mid points.

Median: n+1/2
LQ = n+1/4
UQ = 3(n+1)/4
IQR = UQ-LQ

May be asked to identify strengths of weaknesses of measures of spread. (tailor these answers to context of question/sample)

Correlation
Calculate product moment correlation coefficient
Interpret the values into context of question
(complete scatter diagrams)
Use summary data formula and interpret it.

Regression
Calculate y=a+bx
Calculate estimates
Calculate residuals by formula y-a+bx
Plot regression line (choose 2 numbers from x axis, sub into formula and plot)
Comment in context of A and B
Summary data

Probability
Venn Diagrams
Tree Diagrams
Two-way tables of probabilities
Multiplication rule (AND)
Addition rule (OR)
change denominator if GIVEN THAT

Binomial Distribution
Mean = np
Variance = np(1-p)
Standard deviation = square root of variance
Variance = standard deviation squared
**If you can do Poisson, you can do this.**

Normal Distribution
formula Z=X - mu / standard deviation
All, every, each = (p)^x
Mean = Z=X-mu / SD / square root of n
**Basically kinda like Poisson but with sketches!**
Comment in context
Reversing - find Mu or standard deviation

Confidence Intervals
Formula = X-bar - Z x standard deviation / square root of n
Comment on central limit theorem (n=30 if not normally distributed)
Comment on given values in context

You may also be asked to do simultaneous equations, but it is VERY RARE!

This is a basic over view on what I can remember, if there is anything else please share!

How about the 5 marker one probability was it something like 0.00366

CLT was used in part a as the distribution is unknown

I did that but my answer came out at something like 0.9...

On the numerator i took away two each time since a white roll was taken and ham (or vise versa) but I was probably wrong lol oh well

I did the rest of the paper fine
