Wich Computing Degree to do ?

hey all

i am currently in the stage if picking a uni and course to go to and have reached a brick wall . I really like the programming aspects of computing at a level but i am not to keen on the theory side of computing. And i cant decide which degree to go for as they are all so different and i don't really get the difference of them all. I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between them and also wich one would be best suited for me and finally which one would end me up in a job that involves programming ?

I do the one with the most programming and the course that gives you most insight to build apps, websites, networks and databases all by yourself: Software Engineering. You learn the most programming languages but less theory than computer science and less maths than computing

edit: I must point out that in my uni Software Engineering has a high drop out/ failure / course-change rate compared to the others. We started first year with about 100 students, now finishing 3rd year there are less than 40

thanks for the information @JavaScriptMaster if you dont mind me asking what university do you go to ? and after the course you are doing what kind of job are you looking to get ? also when looking for jobs do you think company look for computer science or software engineering for a job in development ?

Personally it depends on what you want to do as a job. Personally I am taking computer science (network computing) at Brunel. As it offers a wide variation of topics with specialisms in the third year (networking, ai, software).

Have you considered a level 4 apprenticeship (first year uni) as this is very practical and hands on less theory. Then you can do level 5 and 6 apprenticeship for full degree.

I go to Sheffield Hallam, they have a pretty good programme going on, especially for game software development. I'm about to finish final year hopefully with a 2:1, if I get that then I've secured myself a grad job as a Software Engineer for a certain financial market company....

as for Software Engineering vs Computer Science, it doesn't matter which you study but what you can prove that you've learned from it in the form of sample code, sample projects or work experience. One key difference is that Computer Science grads should, emphasis on should be more suitable for Software Architect jobs or Software Design vs Software Engineers which are most qualified for Software Engineering jobs. Take a look on indeed or monster for jobs with the names 'Computer Scientist' and then Software Engineer see what you find.

I've heard, that without understanding of the theory you're likely to go down the code monkey route. You need understanding of the theory to do more than just simply type up code.
