Dream jobs ??

Ahh, fair! So how come physics research isn't your dream job?

True, especially if you dabble in private practice.

Extra training is pretty long, you don't become a 'fully fledged' doc until after several years of specialist training in the UK.

The pay for a theoretical physicist is **** in the UK lol.

No I mean why is there even more training to transfer to the US?

Captain in royal army medical corps as a doctor

Do you plan to leave the Army fairly early in your career? You'd be a Captain as soon as you get Full GMC Registration. If you stay for longer, you can certainly set your sights on higher ranks

Not quite right. I'm assuming you're referring to consultants when you say 'fully fledged' doctors? FY1s are still doctors.

You just need loads of extra training to move up and specialise.

Yeah, consultants. FY1s are doctors in training imo.

Dentist
I'm starting Dentistry in September
I want to be a scientist (physics maths computer science side of things) and help making the world more scientific and less irrational ,which is perhaps the ultimate problem of humanity right now.
Science communictor would be an ideal job so that you convince people that Einstein was not a boring nerd without friends thinking of boring and complex stuff that they don't really care , but quiet the opposite proving once again that our universe is a very strange and awesome place to be and explore and make our society more interested in learning about what's really going on in our universe from a reliable source .
I'll devote my life to science , who is with me ?

I don't quite understand the second question- isnt it the same question as the first

I see all, these people saying cool stuff like surgeon, medical researcher, ceo, professor, historian, doctor, scientist etc... all very interesting

Then there's "trader"

Ahaha, thay's the unfortunate reality of noncommercial research! I'm sure there are some well paid physics jobs out there, albeit the only ones that spring to mind are in oil and gas/mining.

Oh, because the US doesn't fully recognise the training undergone in the UK. They require most foreign docs to do a couple of years in what's equivalent to their 'residency' program to bring non-US docs up to speed with how medicine functions over there. I'm guessing it's all due to disparities between the NHS procedures and the private insurance driven procedures they have in the US. Not too versed in it all though.

In which case you'll be disappointed if you remain a Captain  it would be realistic to aim for Colonel, or even Brigadier if you play the game right

So, everyone wanting to do well for themselves is causing themselves harm? Without greed no-one would bother to do anything...

Colonel and Brigadier are field officer ranks.
Isn't Captain the highest non-field officer rank?

I say one word- trader- and just for that I ge not one, not two, but three responses saying that I'm boring, greedy etc...
Guys I can't help being interested in it. Not completely set on the career just yet (haven't done any real work experience except doing some small scale prop trading (not the same as what I'd do at a bank anyway) at home) but I do think it would be a good career, as long as I manage to even get the job in the first place, not a guarantee now that banks aren't hiring many traders and algos take over.

I'm also considering teaching maths, maybe after a successful City career?
