Telematics Car Insurance

Hi all,
The only way I can get a decent quote is by having a telematics box fitted. Even then, my quote comes out to be £3100 at my address. At my sister's address however, it is a grand cheaper. I'm tempted to say the car will be parked there overnight (wrong but only for one year!). My question is, do these telematics box companies use the data to see where the car is parked overnight?

first off, you're gonna get a load of people that are gonna shout 'insurance fraud!!' and lose their heads. ignore them. you're still paying grands for insurance and anybody would wanna cut corners.

secondly, nope wont work. after a few months they will send you a letter saying that the cars not in the right spot and you gotta move it, otherwise youll get cancelled and you're basically screwed.

either get the insurance and park at your sisters most days of the week, otherwise maybe go for non black box insurance if possible at sisters insurance.

Thanks for the advice, won't non black box insurers find out though?
I had a black box for my first year (just got rid of it), and yes they do monitor where you are.
They will notice if you park at your sisters. And are gonna make you move.
£3100 is pretty steep! That's over double what mine was (£1300).
What car are you driving?

Yup, insurance is sky high where I am, frustrating but what can you do eh. Well I've got a choice between a Corsa 1.4 or a Golf 1.4/1.6. How about you?

It sounds it, yikes!
Super frustrating but yeah exactly! We're just being ripped off by the insurance companies and theres nothing we can do!

Hmm have you looked at a 1.0 or a 1.2? Theyll be cheaper to insure.
Golfs will be expensive for your first year. And i dont like Vauxhall so not gonna comment.
Im driving a Fiat Grande Punto 1.2. Its a decent car, cheap to run too!

You call that sky-high? well, when you live in the Hackney borough (which used to be a 'gang-banging' area) of London, then you have sky-high insurance. 1.2 Fiesta = £3900-4000 WTF? Whereas when I check my car for canterbury where I will hopefully be going for uni, and the car is 2.5L, it is 2.8k with 500 or 750 excess.

Tower hamlets here, blackbox=3500 non black box=6000

It simply isn't worth it
I am so thankful I don't live where you lot live, those insurance prices are crazy.
And I thought I was unfortunate receiving £1.2k Telematics quotes and £1.6k non telematics on 1.2L Polo's.

Personally I believe anything over 3k isn't worth it. But I've been putting up with public transport for almost 6 years now and I start work in September which is 20 miles off and I really cba getting the train and whatnot!
