Do this:

x(y-4) = -10

Now what two numbers multiply to make -10?

For example, -2 and 5 do, x=-2 and y-4 = 5 means x=-2, y=9 works.

Or x=5, y-4 = -2 works.

Or x=10, y-4 = -1 works.

etc...

You really only need to use one of the above pairs.

Then the x's cancel out





So now you know what Y is, you can substitute it into the original equation to get the value of X











x=1
y= -6




BTW, I have no clue if this is right! Correct me if I'm wrong! I was just improvising...

x(y-4) = -10
y-4 = -10/x
y = (-10/x + 4)
x(-10/x + 4 - 4) = -10
x(-10x) = -10
-10x^2 + 10 = 0
-10(x^2 - 1) = 0
x^2=1
x=1
y = (-10/1 + 4)
y= -6
