I really liked that shop. *****.
How do we fix our country's economy back to normal? Im getting annoyed by good shops closing down and job losses. (We've already lost Woolworths, Comet, etc).

Very damaging to the country, dont you think?

What could be the cause of this problem, and how can it be fixed?

BHS closed because it had no unique offering, competitive advantage or anything modern, and no buyer will touch its pensions with a barge pole. It would require a lot of working capital to turn it around. Stick to Debenham, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, h&m, topshop etc.

Woolworths closed because it was like a car boot sale with a pick and mix section.

Agreed. It had lost its way a long time ago. It gailed to move with the times , establish customer loyalty or corner any profitable markets. Its a shame for the 11,000 employees. There better be a thorough investigation as to how Green was able to let the pension fund become such a disaster, yet still extract so much money.

It did sell nice linen and its lighting section was always very good.

But in small towns the length and breath of the country there are successful Woolworths look alikes often in old Woolworths premises (someone should conduct research into the history of Woolworths store doorhandles, they were the most distinctive on the High Street-you can always spot a former Woolworths branch)

It's a shame, but the fact is the high street is on borrowed time.

It's more that the jobs are being replaced than lost. Replaced by jobs at online retailers such as Amazon and delivery companies.

A Woolworths store near me that closed down in the late 1980s was replaced by a Woolworths-like store. And you could still easily tell that it was once a Woolworths store from it's wooden shop flooring to the shop frontage. But when Home Bargains took over the store, they replaced the whole lot with their own boring in comparison store layout. :colonhash:
