Have PG's become more important in recent years?
Hi guys for 25 mark questions, just wondering when to use a 'yes yes yes no no no' structure and when to use an alternating 'yes no yes no..' structure. Also do your counter arguments count as evaluation when in the 'yes yes yes no no no' structure?

Always do the yes no structure and argue internally, however if you begin a paragraph starting on for and counter it by the against argument, begin introducing your next paragraph by using the against argument first followed by the for argument so you don't just mention the for argument at the start of every paragraph, it makes it cooler

What I mean is:
Paragraph 1: for and then against
Paragraph 2: against and then for
Paragraph 3: for and then against
Paragraph 4: against and then for

Anyone got figures on the current social composition of HoC and HoL? % of women MPs, etc?

AS OF 2012:

Just 22% of the HoC constituted for women whilst just 4% for ethnic minorities.

21% in HoL for women and 4% for ethnic minorities.

8% accounted for ethnic minorities across both Houses.

Here's plan for the question:

« IsLabour returning to its Socialist roots ? »

YES Equality : Rich should be taxed the most, the poor theleast :
-Labourintroduced MINIMUM WAGE
-suppportreintrodicuing 50p tax fot those earning +£100,000/year
-Againstcuts to tax credits done by the Tory gov. and voted against thecut of the EMA in 2011.

NO Nothing wrong with getting rich, as long as there is equality ofopportunity ;
-povertygap grew under Blair/Brown + Brown abolished 10p rate of tax poorest paying + taxes
-EdBalls shadow chancellor announced « Labour not to reverse cutsby coalition »

YES - Active rôle of the state :
-Under Blair, massive inscrease of state spending from £2000 in1997 to £5000 in 2007 per student.
-Brown Gov nationalised failing banks (NORHERN ROCK/RBS)
-Corbyn announced nationalisation of Railway

NO A mixed ecnonomy : Labour did NOT reverse Thatcherprivatisation scheme when in gov.
-Brown privatised the Tote
-introduced academies in 2000

YES Internationalism :
-Brown promoted the cause of poverty in the world, and recentlythe US
+ campaingned for more money to fight Malaria
-Also supported Make Poverty History (taking insider status)
-Corbyn and Miliband URGED party to vote against action in Syriain 2015
promoting UN action + Corbyn believes in disarmement

NO Humanitarian interventionn sometimes necessary, w/ or w/outinternational support :
-Diplomacy does not always work ; Blair launched Iraq War in2004 despite objection of international community
-Miliband supported though actioons against ISIS
-More than 60 Labour MPs to vote FOR the military action, including Shadow Foreign Secretary Benn

IMO it's much better to use yes yes yes no no then alternating it..

Why would you wanna do that? If you get your timings wrong and only manage to do the yes yes yes ones you lose out on all of your ao3 marks, you wanna be able to get the evaluation marks as soon as possible before you run out of time

The Yes, Yes, Yes, No, No, No Structure and Yes, No, Yes, No,Yes,No is entirely up to you.
I use Yes, No because I feel it looks like you know what you are doing more. But if you do an essay the Yes, No way you need to make the No link to he last Yes paragraph. If you get what I mean?
looked into this in a bit more detail and have found some apparent answers.
so assess is YNYNYN , discuss is YYYNNN, if evaulate is the key word then put 3/4 points and say good / bad things about them, to what extent questions i'm not sure.
can anyone confirm that these are right or have i got the wrong end of the stick lol

It structures your argument out much better, in A2 politics you are also told to use for for for against against against. Even the AS textbook's exemplar essays use this structure. Either way you won't lose marks using the f/a/f/a/f/a way

oh this helped  so general consensus is it doesn't really matter but if you can, go for the YNYN structure?

Ah I see, just a quick question what is even the difference in what you cover in the second year? I've seen stuff about America but do you have to do that?

To what extent questions are 2 for 2 against
as a general rule.
So if the question was ArePressure Groups Becoming More Powerful, Or Less Powerful
you would do 2 saying they are more powerful and 2 saying they are less powerful

With "Assess" and "To what extent" questions, you should use a yes no/ yes no/ yes no structure, because you need to analyse the question thoroughly.

With "Make a case for" questions, you should use a yes X is better (and even though some argue X is worse having X would be better for another reason) x3 structure, and vice versa for "make a case against"

hope i helped

That's what I do but they will not drop you marks for doing YYYNNN if you get it all in.
My structure is like

Into defining the key term in question and saying my argument in around 2 mins.

For each para, I usually get 3 done.

Point
Explain
Example
Link To Question
Counter
Explain
Link
Judgement

Then conclude as quick as possible

I thought I would start an official thread since the exam is approaching....

How is revision going guys...and how many topics are you learning?

eeeek, not long now-can't believe its tomorrow. I decided its best to revise for all 4 topics as you never know how brutal/awful the questions may be.

best of luck to everyone!
