Maths sohcah fkin toa

i can't seem to get my head around it wtf how is it so hard? I understand it once then after 2 days I FORGET.

FOR ARGUMENTS SAKE:

say the angle is 50 and the opposite side is 5CM what is the HYPOTENUSE?

Do i put my finger on top of the side i need and work from there?

What do you mean by the tangent is 5cm, theres not tangents in right angled triangles

What are you confused on? Where the hypotenuse is?

If that''s the case, then it's always opposite the 90 degree angle

OK so we know the opposite side is 5cm and it is the hypotoneuse we want. If u refer to SOH CAH TOA the only thing that seems to satisfy that is SOH thats sin x= opposite/hypotenuse.

So sin 50 = 5cm/x
so x(sin 50)=5cm
so x=5cm/sin(50)
so x =6.53cm to 3 s.f

Sinx = Opposite / Hypotenuse
Cosx = Adjacent / Hypotenuse
Tanx = Opposite / Adjacent

The opposite side is the side opposite from the angle given, the hypotenuse is the longest side and the adjacent is the other side (the side adjacent to the angle given and the right angle).



Therefore since you have the Opposite and you need the Hypotenuse, you use SOH.

Sin50 = 5 / Hypotenuse
Hypotenuse = 5 / Sin50

If you mean that you're given the length 2 sides and want to find the length of the other side then you can use Pythagoras' theorem for right angle triangles.

Opposite2 + Adjacent2 = Hypotenuse2

If it was 2 sides and you wanted to find the angle it would be like this.

pretend opposite was 5 cm and hypoteneuse was 7cm and you wanted the angle.

You would do this. Sin x= 5/7
x= Sin^-1(5/7)
so x would be 45.6 degrees to 3 s.f
