why do we need good grades in our exams to get a decent job?
Some people may not be good at school subjects what so ever but they could be amazing at their future/dream job!

A certain standard at GCSE Maths/English at the very least is pretty imporant - otherwise, how can you be expected to do day to day things competently?

Those decent jobs require a certain level of education as well as other things. But people who are not so academic but have other skills, like being a chef or a sportsperson or anything vocational can do it as long as they've got some education.
