Lol if you do Medicine you don't make the medicine yourself...You prescribe it, yes, but you don't make it xD

And that's why you spend 5 years in uni alone (+ years and years after that depending on how far you go) to ensure that you make as few mistakes as possible because you're dealing with people's lives.

if you just prescribe medicine, then don't do medicine at all that is gonna be sooo boring... eventually
i really thought u make medicine, serious that is gonna be such a dead job

btw thanks learnt something new and not to waste my life pursuing a field with no excitement

Prescribing medicine is obviously not the only thing you'll be doing xD It forms some part of yeah, but Medicine is such a vast vast field! There are so many different specialities that you can undertake that it'll be impossible to get bored haha! As a doctor, you constantly have to keep up to date with the advancements happening in Medicine every day, and you never stop learning! This may be a disadvantage to some, but personally I find it awesome

So hello everyone, I'm pretty confused.I'm unsure to what career path to take, law or medicine? I enjoy Science and History/English (and the law aspect itself) but could someone give me the pros and cons of both careers. If anyone has been in a similar situation or you have any stories concerning your education or career, please feel free to tell. Thanks in advance.

I am in the same position so I picked medicine and I put law as a kinda back-up so just in-case I'm unable to do medicine, which is what I want to pursue, I would recommend medicine, if you are passionate about helping people and are very interested in sciences, (PS. you get a higher pay).
But. Your choice.

Also you may have to represent people who have done horrible crimes and defend them even though you know they are guilty

This is ridiculous and it doesnt work that way. She may also find she has to operate on paedophiles, rapists and murderers if you wnat to start getting silly. Only a small % of lawyers do criminal defence work.

You need to do some research and find out what each profession does.
Also what each subject involves at degree level.
You also need to be realistic about your academic ability as to whether you will get good enough grades for either..

Medicine gives you more of a chance of getting a job and you will ob average be doing more hours.

Law is probably easier to get into for a degree, but you then have a bigger difficulty getting a training contract to be a solicitor or pupillage if you wnat to be a barrister. If you are good enough then you will get through, but many people fail.

You arent going to win through unless you get the grades.
You should pickc the one that has more interest and you will enjoy. Only you can make that decision.

I have but the thing that's putting me off Medicine is that I'm getting B's in Science while I'm getting A's and A*'s in History. Also, I've been hearing from so many people that Chemistry and Biology are really hard :frown: Initially I wanted to do Medicine or Dentistry (most likely dentistry) but I feel really interested in Law. So that's why.

If you're better at history than science then probably medicine isn't for you.

Medicine bc pay

Not a good reason.Junior doctors are not paid enough in the NHS and they could be in that position for years.
Law can also be as ,if not more, lucrative than medicine.

What about Dentistry?

Apart from the junior doctor thing, all 3 are equally lucrative in my eyes but money should not be your main motivation because all three of these careers takes years of studying, dedication and its hard to get into any medicine or dentistry course and law courses at top unis have difficult entry requirements.
Not to mention you have to learn insane amounts of material for all three courses. You will not last long on either of these three courses if money is your main motivation factor.

Money should not be your main motivation . I now see you have thrown in Dentistry. You should pick what you know you will enjoy and can cope with. If you arent good enough then you wont get into Uni and you may not be good at any job you do.

There is enough scope in any of the profssions to make good money if you are good enough. Medicine has the higher chance of getting you a job.
if you have to ask that question, then I'm probably going to say law isn't for you (and maybe medicine people would say the same?) I think to do well in law you've got to have a bit of a passion for it as it can be quite dry. however its a great degree to have for all graduate schemes, just know what your getting into.
btw you can do commercial law, which involves companies
Zamestaneh
seriously why are u looking at it from a religious view
Both law and medicine are competitve. Personally, if I am in your place then I would go for law because it's quite interesting and it gives you a chance to sharpen your mind, strengthen your understanding and gain your experience across humanities and social sciences. It also helps you to be aware of the surrounding around you. You also have the chance to study crime -- why do people commit crime etc.

Medicine is a really good course and you can deffo do it if you are interested in helping with people's lives. It will be a good experience for you however you may have to sacrifice your social life. So I wouldn't pick medicine because I love to socialise and its for 5-6 years which can be stressful. Sometimes you don't have time for things like to spend time with family and friends.

Dentistry is really a good career, it's quite awesome I think. Anyway, I hope this opinion of mine to help you to decide.

Atm your doing GCSES right. So I suggest you to do open-choice for a-levels such as Biology, Sociology etc. I suggest you to focus on your GCSES first then you can decide during a-levels, that's what I am doing. I too love science and I want to work in NHS but I am not sure what career to pick so I will decide during A-levels. Good luck X
