You may have actually hindered yourself, when doing two theories like formation or maintenace if you do both they have to be equal. AQA have said this, as in if you do 90% one theory and then add a few things from the other you may limot band. Did you mention an equal amount of formation and mainteance?

Omg don't do this to me dude... I used the maintenance stuff more as support for my formation (something along the lines of explaining economic theories of maintenance and saying that it supports the reward/need model of formation) so i didn't write lots about it :/
It was definitely more based on formation, and anything I mentioned about maintenance i made sure formation was still the focus, so now I feel like I just shot myself in the foot ... yikes ... better start doing some unit 4 stuff
Guys how was it today? I thought it went decent!
Spent 1 hour 30 minutes deciding whether to choose maintenance or formation cos i had to weigh it up

I got 153 ums last year and lets say i get 100 ums on this paper and 90 ums in the next one does that mean i can still get an A*?

It's 360 for an A* so I think you will just miss out on it.

Yeap. 100 UMS is 100% UMS and 90 UMS is exactly 90% so you'd fulfill the criteria.

Yeh according to AQA its a big nono, and our teacher has said its best to not do this if you dont have a balanced essay its best to stick to one,
I was pretty happy with how it went. I did Aggression, Gender and Eating Behaviour. Predicted a few questions which made it nice and easy to revise for
However, I thought the 4 mark AO1s were a bit odd. I just wrote as much as I'd learned, I guess.

Could group display be used for evolutionary explanations for human aggression?
I don't see why not.

Hello again from the other thread... Lol, yeh i thought it was VERY nice, i spoke to a few of my friends who didnt do much and they missed the aggression question out and they couldnt answer circadian rhythms.... *facepalm

What topics did you do?
Original post by bluefire66
omg, so upset I wrote nothing for the circadian rhythms essay because I thought the scn+light was for another rhythm. If I got good marks for the other 2 questions, do you think I could get a c??
What did you get at AS? And do you need a good grade to get into uni?

Pretty rubbish exam really, didn't like the questions- it was difficult to fit in both maintenance and both formation theories into the relationships question and trying to get war/sports (which I like a lot but messed up on this question) and infidelity/jealousy (which I seriously can't stand) into the aggression question. I didn't expect that kind of wide reaching question format, especially not for 2 questions anyway. ended up forgetting all the researcher's names i'd so carefully planned and remembered and just wrote 'a study found' for most things which was disappointing. it really didn't show my actual ability, and I still feel like there was nothing better I could've done revision wise. I hope the second one will be better.

Thank goodness im not the only one

I wrote about sport for group displays and infidelity and jealousy because it said explanation(s) so I guessed that they wanted a variety of explanations for the evolutionary approach - did I do correct?
:O!!! oh no I wrote about one explanation only - group display! Does that mean only half the marks are available?! :frown:

I don't believe any markscheme ever penalized for not mentioning names. It helps to know core names, eg. Aggression's social explanation, SLT by Bandura etc.

I fit both as well, but it was and/or so it doesn't matter if you did both or just one. I didn't expect a wide range either but I thought it was nice, I didn't remember group completely so I made up for it with lots of sexual jealousy + infidelity.

Why did you try and fit both maintenance and formation? That just seems like overkill to me

Schools may or may not teach enough content for some (since formation and maintenance have only every come up as 12s except formation which did have a 24 marker itself) and students (in my experience) find extra theories/studies to supplement their essays and can pick and what to revise. Some may or may not have learned enough formation so it could make sense to mix and match aha.
Guys, I put limited as a IDA point for the SET theory does this count?

I did about twin studies and family studies - is that okay?

I guess so; never studied those areas for bio so I'm not sure. Sorry!
I got 169 UMS last year
How well do I need to do to get an A* this year?

320 -169 = 151UMS needed??

Help please

I did eating behaviour, my friend said she did neural mechanisms but ran out of time to make her second point. I did evolutionary 'adapted to flee due to famine' hypothesis, and then I only had 10 mins left so panicked a bit and scrawled some stuff and evaluation of the genetic theory, but i havent come across many people who said genetics so bit worried I didn't get it right :s-smilie:

For the biological explnations of anorexia, i did genetics and evolutionary too
Wait so how do they decide the grade boundaries if there are several topics and are likely to have been differently?

It was a broad question... You can talk about sexual infidelity and jealousy or group displays (or both!)

how did you find gender?
