Why are braces not free for 18 year olds on the NHS?

Stupid question i know, but i want to know why.

we don't pay to go doctors but i guess that is entirely different?

The NHS is in crisis so they make every cut they can.

Is this because you can't get braces for free?

I am asking in general.
They rejected me braces saying i have to pay for them myself

Dunno probably like the person above me said, NHS cuts :/
But 18 is that special age where society deems you now an adult and you have to work and do everything by yourself

If you begin treatment at 17 then you don't have to pay for them, only if you actually start at 18.

I'm 18 and I get my braces fitted in at the end of this month, I don't have to pay.
Probably something to do with the age coverage and the plan you're on?
Has to be some reason because honestly the teeth situation here is so rank

Lmao you mean your history class?...

How bad are your teeth?

What problem do you have?

Because it's a cosmetic procedure

tbh not that bad but it would be nice to get them straightened...only reason they declined me is because the teeth measurements didn't comply with their guidelines

Lucky you.

My local dentist told me to get braces but i never really took what she said seriously, that was when i was 17 but now i am 18.

I don't lie the fact that my birthday is in the second month:redface:
