Definitely an A

are you sure?
the two exams were kinda easy (but i made really silly mistakes) so i'm thinking that the grade boundaries will increase by a lot.
for an A it was 141 in June 2010 (and all the previous years)

what do you think the mark would be to scrape an A, like the minimum mark?

On question 11 if I put £42.28 and did all the correct working would I still get full marks?

I think you will because everyone have different stages of rounding decimals

--------my answer--------
(before all this below i did 3.5 and 3.6)
3.73.7^3 - 5(3.7) = 32.153
34 - 32.153 = 1.847
So 3.7 is 1.847 away.

3.83.8^3 - 5(3.8) = 35.872
35.872 - 34 = 1.872
So 3.8 is 1.872 away.

This shows 3.8 being 0.025 further away than 3.7. 3.7 is closer. Therefore, the answer is 3.7, even though 3.75, the midpoint between them gives an answer smaller than 34.

Thats how i done it you are correct

That's great. What do you think you'll get in non-calculator?
I really messed that one up and got around 85% but I'm hoping for an A* overall
Guys is it ok if i got 80.8 for the last qutiones

This would work if we weren't talking about indices. Because we are talking about indices the difference can be greater between the two numbers but the actual solution can be closer to the higher number.

No need to overcomplicate the question dude. its 3.7

--------my answer--------
(before all this below i did 3.5 and 3.6)
3.73.7^3 - 5(3.7) = 32.153
34 - 32.153 = 1.847
So 3.7 is 1.847 away.

3.83.8^3 - 5(3.8) = 35.872
35.872 - 34 = 1.872
So 3.8 is 1.872 away.

I did this differently. I used 3.75 to test which way I should round it, and discovered that using 3.75 meant the result was lower than expected. This meant that the answer had to be somewhere inbetween 3.75 and 3.8 so, if rounded properly to one decimal place, it becomes 3.8 instead.

You cannot just use the difference between them because there is NOT a steady increase because it involves x^3.
If I got 75 on the non Calculator paper and 90 on the calculator paper, will I still got an A*?

Also:

3.7 leaves you 1.847 away from 34.
3.8 leaves you 1.872 away from 34.

Therefore the answer is 3.7

What do you think I will need for a B? Don't even care if it's a low b

Grade A and C are worked out by the examiners / edexcel people I think.

grade B is in between A and C, e.g. last year A was 125, 30 less B (95) 30 less C (65).

So depends on A and C grade boundary.

I'm guessing since A will be a lot higher, more like 135-140, B will be 95-105 in my opinion.

Good luck though!

Yeah they should both be correct because you can't get that much of a person

I think it's time you stopped spreading misinformation

The exact answer that they are looking for rounds to 3.8 so therefore why would you round it to 3.7

You are finding a 1d.p. answer not a 2d.p. answer and rounding it. Rounding brings faults, and when 1d.p. is concerned, 3.7 is closer than 3.8 by 0.025

Last year it was 155/200 for A*, so I assume so
if I got 92/200 marking harshly what grade would that be?

Yeah you probably still got 5/6 as soon as you got the first two figures right the answer will between 79.5-80.5
How high do you think will the grade boundaries increase? Last year overall it was 65/200 for a C. I got around 71. Do I have a fighting chance or did I screw up big time? xD

They aren't overcomplicating it they are giving a valid explanation as to why you can't simply use the difference between them. The answer asks for an answer correct to one decimal place and because the solution lies between 3.75 and 3.8, the correct solution HAS to be 3.8 It's simple maths.

the borderline of C?

That's not too bad! For me, it's the other way around; I'm pretty sure I got a 100% in non-calculator and in today's paper, I'm pretty sure I got around 93 or 94 out of 100. I'm so vexed with that as my teacher wanted me to get the highest in the year (which I'm sure I haven't got)!
