Getting back in touch almost never works, unless you're prepared to accept that things won't be the same as they were.

I'm an in the area kinda guy. I can hit off a relationship back as it is if I'm in the area. The only way I lose touch is if you are not in the area(or for some reason I am unable to meet the people).

I do need to improve in maintaining relationships.

Pretty much. Though recently I did randomly go through my whatsapp and message one of my friends who I haven't spoken to in a couple of years and I'm glad I did.

Has it ever inspired you to try and rekindle that connection if possible?

Yep, me and my old best friend from school drifted apart for about 3 years but then I saw her once at the bus stop. We got on the same bus and chatted away and it was like nothing had changed. I met up with her a few weeks after and since then we are close again.

Another close friend of mine reached out to her old mate in hope that they'd talk again but the other one didn't want anything to do with her. Tbh it's something that needs both parties wanting to rekindle. When I spoke to my friend she was sad that she let our friendship die and she was really keen with keeping in touch with me again.
Brb immigrants made me fail my exams
Brb immigrants made the England team play crap at the Euros
Brb immigrants is the reason why you can't get a girl
Brb immigrants are the reason why Leicester won the PL and your team didn't
Brb immigrants are the reason why I didn't win the lottery

Is there anything we can't blame on immigrants? :awesome:

Think a lot of people are tbh. Let's be honest 90% of adult friendships are made out of convenience.

I like a lot of the people I work with but I highly doubt i'll speak to any of them again one I leave, for example.

They're an easy target, plus it's something people often get riled over. If you go extreme enough you'll convince people they're a major problem and gain more power, which will just snowball.
It's like Trump in America. He's not dull, he knows exactly what he's doing. Targeting a specific crowd that can get him into power. He'll tone it down if he becomes POTUS.

Your logic is flawed because that picture is indoors.

Delete yourself pal.

I think it's also very much because immigrants cant defend themselves and also they are faceless. There's a reason why people give money to animal charities at home vs. giving charity to Africa/other deprived areas of the world. They're just a number or statistic and not a face.

Not sure about Trump - while I agree he's egging it on to distinguish himself, I think he's a little bit too maverick to be a sensible politician. That said, POTUS never has as much power as they think. Obama had a lot of his ideas/plans diluted due to politics and they would do the same to Trump.
People will celebrate when trump looses the election (and rightly so)

But that should quickly be forgotten as we focus on the actual problem, and realise that trump is just a symptom of an increasing shift back towards the right, that is happening in the western world at the moment.
Anyone watch the debate on ITV last night?

No, the one the other day seemed to linger with an out message. Farrage handled himself quite well, and Cameron not so much. What happened last night?

He seems to edge over Clinton on a simple who has the most votes level...

But because of their electoral college system and the past performances of the democrats, it would take a pretty huge swing for him to actually pull of a victory

See the link bellow if you are interested:

(also worth noting he has polled ahead of clinton yes, but partly that can be attributed to him being now established as his parties candidate, whereas clinton has had to battle on with Bernie until recently, dividing her potential support.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, Angela Eagle and Amber Rudd appeared on behalf of Vote Remain. Former London Mayor Boris Johnson, Andrea Leadsom and Gisela Stuart represented Vote Leave.

Was funny hearing the Leave campaign complaining about the Remain campaign using a "strategy of fear" (as they keep saying the economic impacts will be terrible) when the Leave campaign basically blamed the immigrants for everything.

Thought that the Leave campaign sounded better in terms of consistent rhetoric (control of laws, control of borders, less money to EU) although if you listened to the substance it sounded like they had little basis (and Remain accused them of lying) or idea as to how the UK would be better outside of the EU.

Hard to know how it will sway..

This article sums up how I feel with this paragraph in particular:

If Britain leaves the EU, the people I grew up with will not see social housing waiting lists diminish, because the Conservative government will not build the council housing we need. They will not see secure jobs materialise, because there will be no industrial strategy to create them. They will not enjoy a surge in living standards, because the cuts policy will only be accelerated. A vote for leave has become a vote to slash immigration to solve Britain’s multiple problems. Searing disappointment awaits.

Have to decide how to vote today, due to letting my proxy know back in england, so they can postal vote.

hmmm
Haven't really posted on here much of late but I think people who are worrying about immigration and the democratic deficit the EU has really are not focusing on one of the biggest issues facing not just the UK but developed societies and the world in general. That is capitalism and how capitalism works in a globalised world and soon to be a globalised world in which automation of labour is going to take over and decimate lots of low skilled jobs. I think its important to focus upon how society is going to look in that world and where all these people are going to make a living. If these people aren't making a living are we going to see mass unemployment like many countries in Southern Europe.

If that happens a socialist type system will either come about or will come about following unrest and potentially violence. I think its clear, and many State's are waking up to the fact that the only way they can keep living standards and services afloat will be via a re-jig of the tax system and particularly corporate taxation. Theories like that of Piketty's on rate of return on capital are gaining traction. You can see large swings to the right with UKIP and Trump, but also the left with Sanders and Syriza being examples at the forefront. What underlies is anti-establisment feelings, suspicion of authority and a sense of inequality that is bottom line unsustainable.

I think the key actually lies in the US but the EU is similar and will follow. It will take a unified block of basically concentrated wealth to come out on the right side of those global changes. I don't think the UK is big enough to fight against global corporate power, and certainly not when we are struggling to pay the bills post Brexit.

Really really dislike the EU but I'll be voting to remain.
