Disgusting betting shops everywhere.

I'm sure everyone has seen these places - they are filled with dirt poor/homeless people that spend what little money they can get on gambling, alcohol and drugs.

What sad, sad places. These places should be closed instantly and there should be a real, day-to-day support for these people (literally people that walk around and visit them every single day to help them get work and a place to live).

Gambling is an awful addiction. Unlike alcohol (which the main limitation is how much the body can take) there is no limit. You can lose EVERYTHING.

In my village there is only 1 small convenience store and about five betting shops.

Yeah, as long as they don't stop you from posting in threads after a certain amount of time has passed!
Worse are all the stupid money loan stuff, take out £10 for a week pay £6.6bn back the next week, things like these I think should be banned.

Hmmm. Hello old post. Never thought of it like that, though.

Ah the pay loans. Yeah complete scam but only fools can be fooled. Like do they not understand 24% interest rate is NOT a good number or?...

Yep, that's how it often goes as well - they should be flippin' banned (says pretty much everybody).

Haha, wow. I'm not surprised, there are close to 10 here (but it is Croydon, a massive town)!

I don't think they should be banned, for the same mentality behind fools only can be fooled, when it comes to money at least. I mean you walk into a casino or start betting, your choice. Rich people gamble too! So it's not predatory at all to the poor, it's just predatory to anyone willing to risk their livelihood. And that's their choice. No one is forced to walk into a casino or place abet. That was your choice. And gambling HAS actually helped people who needed the money. It's only a certain person who falls to addiction and then gets harassed by the bookies, but even rich people do that I mean those high rollers. Rich people are high rollers only. You can't be a smackhead high rolling, they're tossing dice for a fiver tops lol
If casinos and betting should be shut down so should arcades ini. It's the same concept of playing a game to win a prize.

But you could say the same about, say, crack - if you allow people to sell it, many more people will be addicted and many more people will be dead.

Same with gambling except they will just be bankrupt 100% of the time. So if you ban it, you're directing stupid people to better lives.

I wouldn't say so because people tend to be addicted to betting shops and rarely ever addicted to arcades. People go to the arcade every now and then for fun, but people that go to betting shops go there every day to spend all their money (in the hopes they'll strike it lucky, which they won't).

So arcades don't wreck people - unless you get wrecked at some game haha.

No let's not detour to analogies, I hate that mate I'm just letting you know that now. Let's stick to this subject. We're not on about crack. We're on about betting. At the end of the day people can sell whatever products and services they want illegal or legal, you need to as a human being understand the dangers in this world and stick by some good principles that keeps you from these dangers. I've never been tempted to buy crack no matter how many dealers I know or walk by! There's betting shops up and open but everyone doesn't just culturally stroll in though. That's the person's choice. We can't build a utopia lest people fall to wicked temptation. Again let's ban arcades as well since people are playing those games for prizes as well.

Arcade games do wreck people. People lose tons of money to pay for a new game to get the prize. It's the same thing. it's the mentality mate. Of not stopping till you get something. That's the sickness of that person. Shouldn't shut everything down because some people are horrible on the inside. I get govt regulation to just prevent full stop anything bad but even with prohibitions and laws against these things people STILL do it.
The main reason someone would want betting shops to be closed down is strictly for social class prejudice purposes, not wanting dodgy people around.

Others honestly don't like the idea that companies are luring poor people

But rich people gamble too.

There's no real reason that I know of yet to ban betting/casinos. The individual decided to go in. They get what they get.

Unless there's some secret govt reason that casinos are wrong, there's no reason to ban gambling.
