What is the purpose of classical allusions in Volpone? Why does he refer to Ovid when seducing Celia?
There is a recurring theme of love within Ovid's Metamorphoses. In this poem, the Gods basically lose all common sense when confronted with the idea of love. I think it was Jonson's way of illustrating Volpone's lack of restraint. It is another way of saying "oh, the sight of you makes me go crazy"
