This isn't true. To mark for AQA you have to have taught that syllabus/exam in the last year and you have to have been teaching for more than a year. So anyone marking CHEM1 has taught it. They only use specialist markers.

Several teachers have told me themselves that the people that mark aqa papers don't have to specialise in that subject, hence why their mark schemes are so detailed and specific.

I promise you, as an A Level marker myself, that you have to teach the exam you mark! OCR don't have specialist markers but AQA are far more rigorous. You can't even mark the A level exam if you only teach GCSE chemistry, you have to teach A Level.
