Hi all,

Does anyone have a brief idea what 'effect' the brexit vote will have on civil services such as hmrc? In terms of jobs and resources?
Has anyone heard from their manager before passing pre employment checks? Or does this mean the checks have been passed? Still doesn't say on the portal.

For now, relatively little - the mission of HMRC in terms of collecting taxes and chasing evaders will continue regardless. Death and taxes..

However, it will to some extent depend on where you're based. Most of the HMRC policy work is located in London, and as I understand it trainees in London are likely to have a policy posting at some point. Those specific roles may well be effected by trying to determine how to unpick UK and EU legislation, and what needs to be done.

For more operational roles, particularly in the wider England and Wales, I doubt you'll see much change at all.

Of course, if you're being posted in Scotland or Northern Ireland - you may well not be working for the UK Government by the end of the scheme. If those countries were to hold referenda and go independent, they would need a tax authority - and the likelihood must be that HMRC operations in those areas would be separated and partitioned off.
For those that were emailed about O level offers... have you heard anything back yet? Tired of waiting now.

Nothing as of yet...
Thank you! that makes a lot of sense. I've just finished university and applied for the grad scheme (didn't get through) and I'm awaiting contact from HMRC regarding HO/O roles and I was just wondering whether this would be affected. But thanks, this was definitely insightful!
Sorry I'm a bit late, to all the Croydon people, I live in North West London and don't feel like commuting every day so I'm looking for a house closer to the South! Also I got a letter today about Civil Service Pensions. Anyone else?
its strange this year as last year, looking at there thread, prov offers for o/ho were made in May, this year were almost in july and still nothing.

To all on the reserve list, don't give up hope as I just got pulled off the reserve list and offered my first choice of Birmingham. I had given up hearing anything so it was a pleasant surprise to say the least! Has anyone else been offered the ICAS trial and if so have you said yes?
Also can someone post the link to the fb group please?

Congrats!

I'm on the reserve list since December. Received email 12th May saying that no positions in my first preference of Belfast, but asked if I wouldbbe interested in taking up a post in either Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds or London. I replied yes to all bar London and was told I would receive further instructions later in the month. That was in May...emailed at the beginning of June and was told they couldn't provide any updates! I've never witnesses such a shambles, honestly! Very tempted to just withdraw because the way it's going, the reserve status will just remain until next years intake is occurring. It's bonkers!

You were on the reserve list and were (provisionally) offered a place in Leeds?

Do you mind me asking what your first choice was and where Leeds ranked in your choices? It's just I had Leeds as my second choice but was offered Edinburgh, and would have accepted Leeds in a heartbeat if it was offered.

And you're right, the whole system and managing of it is an absolute shambles from top to bottom.

Edit to add there's a good chance I'm going to decline my formal offer for Edinburgh when I get it so other reserve-listers don't lose hope.

I only had 3 preferences, Belfast 1st, Newcastle 2nd, and Liverpool 3rd. They haven't offered me anything! Just emailed in mid-May to ask me 2 questions;
1. Would I still be interesred in a post in my first preference location were it to become available.
2. Would I be interested in taking up a post in either Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, or London as they were currently in the process of filling positions where there was demand. Was told not to treat it as an offer and that they would be in touch later in the month with further instructions. That was May, and its now almost July! I told them I would be willing to go to Bristol, Cardiff, or Leeds, but not London. I would need to relocate from N. Ireland for it if they're going to offer anything at all! Losing the will to live waiting on it! Beginning to think my 3 scores at interview weren't good enough, 5, 5, 5. :-(

Thank you for that.

It's a notoriously slow process to which logic and reason doesn't apply, but don't lose hope. The scores are out of 7 and I've seen people going for higher grade posts with 4s get the job.
Best of luck.

The email that I received stated that they were for the O grade positions, and not the HO grade positions....just to confuse the matter more! Lol. If you didn't laugh, you'd cry for dear sake!
If u don't mind me asking sw1981which interview did you have during tsp selection? I only had online tests and then in May an email for the officer roles.

The position I applied for was CSR/2066/15 - Tax Professional and Operational Delivery Higher Officer and Officer Caseworker. I completed online tests last September, attended an interview in Belfast last November, and that's it. Apart from the email in May asking me the two questions. I am a bit puzzled though, as, whenever I check the feedback section on the Civil Services Jobs page, my sift feedback is still awaiting review, and selection exercises 2 and 3 are both still awaiting review. The only feedback I have is my interview scores, and also the automated feedback from the online tests. I genuinely don't know what to make of it all!!! :-(

They won't provide you with feedback because they don't give a flying toss about people wanting to better themselves by learning from the experience. They also don't care about the negative impact their fannying about has on people's lives.
Anyone know the 033 number for OH Assist? Got a garbled message from them and can't hear the phone number properly. 😞
