New Driver - Insurance for 1.6 or 1.8 Engine
Hi
Passed 3 months ago and I'm 20.
I have been looking at cars and the insurance is outrageous - and I do not want a black box.
I need a car that is at least 1.6l, has 5 doors and has plenty of space. It will be doing a lot of long journeys on the motorway of 250 miles +.
Any idea on any insurers and cars that will suit but won't be stupidly priced? I don't like Vauxhall or Suzuki, Mini and Citroen I do like to drive. If you want to know how I have managed to drive so many cars already - I've had 3 driving instructors and lots of cancelled tests. I don't want a Peugeot either - so many problems with them!
I know they tell young drivers to get 1l cars, but that is going to be useless for me.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Gonna have to suck it up lower your standards especially seeing as you don't want blackbox

Reason why I don't want a black box is the unfair penalties. You may need to harsh brake because the driver in front has harsh braked, or an animal or child may run out in front. It is quite a common occurrence you have no control of. Many also take into account how many miles driven, driving at night etc. My insurance would be through roof instead of coming down. I know so many people having black boxes removed.
Bro get a Japanese car, Toyota Auris 1.8 or avensis. Mazda 3 is also great. I drive a Nissan Pulsar 1.8 petrol, it's a great car.

I love toyotas, My dad's Toyota hilux 2001 has got like 500000 plus miles and it's still going strong.

My mum's 2005 Peugeot is on 70,000 something miles - and already has sensor failures and the driver window doesn't work. Run into a pothole and the car says the gearbox is faulty lol. So no Peugeot for me.
500,000 miles is a hell of a lot for a car!

Haha, because Toyota and Volkswagen know how to make cars, cars need to be simple lol.
My first car was a 1.4L Peugeot. Worked well apart from the clutch failed because I treated it like **** everyday as I drove it to work lol. I'm afraid you'll have to deal with these *****y prices and take a black box unless you want to piss your money away. Also lower your standards of cars, its your first car and you being so picky is not going to help.
I sucked up driving a *****y 1.4l peugeot for a year, the renewal quote came to 1K ..down from 2.2K. The blackbox was annoying, and it rates me as a **** driver but I don't get punished at all.
I now have a 2.5L V6 Lexus with every possible gadget in it ^^
My advice? Save your cash and go for something *****y, because once you get that 1NCB and 1 year license held - its quite a big drop in insurance prices so you'll be able to get something nice!

your solution is to get a 1l-1.4l reliable japanese car (reliable is a must for all the driving youll be doing and small engine if you wanna have even the chance to drive without a black box).
with your requirements you wont even have a chance to get black box, theyre all limited in mileage so your long trips wont be allowed. Paying for bonus mileage is so expensive you might as well pay an extra few thousand for non black box.
