Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for most of the year so thought I should post something! After a long wait on the reserve list, I will now be working at Leeds hospital trust doing Medical Physics. Anyone else studying at Leeds?

I visited the hospital on Thursday just to do some ID checks, and was told I would have to attend a central HR interview for similar checks. I am eager to know a general timeline of when we will start as I will be looking into house shares, does anyone know generally what the process is before we start/the first few weeks of starting? It all seems rather vague at the moment!

Hi Jen, congratulations on your place! Generally we should start at some point in September, as for exactly when it is best to check with your trust (not everyone will start exactly the same day). Mine have said they are working towards 5th September but not set in stone at the moment.

Hi, thank you! I've actually received a few emails today answering my questions 🙈 I'm interested as to when the start date is because I have to do the academic part in Newcastle on the 3rd of October for 6 weeks. Not sure whether I should rent a house for the first few weeks of starting the job or just wait till after the 6 week academia (I can just about commute from my parent's house to Leeds). It's all so confusing, I just want a plan haha!
Has anyone had the email about the induction day at Aston Villa football club in September? Very excited!
I got a phone call this morning offering me a position for clinical biochemistry - hull and East Yorkshire NHS trust! So shocked. If any current trainees there or prospective trainees in differing streams could get in touch with me I would love to talk about the course/city as I am in London right now ☺️
Hi guys, not sure if people are already aware but NHS Scotland has trainee positions that come up like regular jobs on their recruitment website. There's currently 4 positions for Biochemistry (2 in Glasgow, 1 in Aberdeen and 1 in Edinburgh) and another position for Vision Sciences. One of Vascular just closed the other day. If you don't mind moving, I'd say give them a go. They appear all year round, but most will be between now and September as they try to get their trainees on the same uni courses as the trainees in England. Personally, I'm holding out for Haematology or Immunology
Hi guys, I've got a place on the Genomic Counselling STP. Anyone else Genomics or Genomic Counselling??

Hi! I'll be doing Clinical Biochemistry at Leeds, and I'm starting on 5th September. I don't know if it's a hospital-wide policy, but I was told they do inductions on Mondays. Have you been in touch with your line manager? They might be flexible and let you start just before or after your course, especially because it's so far away.

Hi, I am doing clinical biochemistry at hull but some of my training is in Leeds
Hi all, a bit of info for those on the Genomics course - I've emailed Manchester and they tell me we'll definitely be in for 3 weeks from 3rd October. After that it depends on what rotations your trust has you down for. So keen to get started now!

Are you planning on commuting or staying in manchester for those 3 weeks? (It depends where your trust is I guess?) I will be in Nottingham so it would be a 2 hour commute on the train each day which doesn't sound fun. Just wondering what other people will be doing about accommodation for those weeks?
Hey,

I'm going to be in Manchester too, I will be looking to stay in Manc I think.

The uni have said they will possiby be offering us a reduced rate apartment hotel. Hope this helps

I'll be staying in Manchester if I can. I guess I will have to wait to find out from my trust if they are happy to pay for accommodation - as I'll be at Sheffield, which isn't that far from Manchester, but would save me a lot of hassle if I can stay there Mon-Fri.

Hi, thank you for sharing this. Can I ask who did you email? I'm doing the Clinical Bioinformatics (Physical Sciences) and I know we will have 3 weeks of Lectures at Machester Uni together with the Clinical Bioinformatics (Genomics) Trainees, so I'm wondering if the dates will be the same. Thank you

Hey guys does anyone have any advice on what to do if you're unsuccessful this year for a place (medical physics)? I got to reserve but my place is 103, so it's not looking very good.. 😂

How about applying directly to a clinical Technologist or other related positions? that might give you relevant experience and knowledge that will be valuable for the next time you apply or you might end up being sponsored as an in service Trainee ( I know of some cases where that happened).

Also, do you like programming? I got a place in Clinical Bioinformatics (Physical Sciences) and the competition seems less tough on this specialism than Medical Physics. Is this something you would consider?

I emailed [email protected] - they were super helpful and replied very quick. They also said they will be emailing out dates to all of the trainees soon, I think we will hear more during July.

thank you  I will email them now, I'm curious! If we all have the same dates, maybe we could all share a house/flat
Manchester Uni and my trust have said that they will not pay for accommodation (as we should be using our wages to pay for it)
