The population is exploding in Africa but shrinking in Europe (if not for immigration).

That's only in europe, on a global scale the human population has exploded
What happens on the other side of the world does not affect you or me except in minute ways. Anyways, do you plan on adopting?

That wasn't my point though, my point was that the world is overpopulated and we are seeing plenty of evidence of this.

I am considering adoption when the time is right, it seems like the most logical thing to do

Fxck .. I can see it :frown:
Can you see that ?

I can see it now
And my point was that the world is overpopulated in certain areas, underpopulated in others, growing exponentially in one place, and shrinking in elsewhere. Its pointless to say the world is overpopulated, when the rest of the world's population won't affect Europe much.

Cool, personally I think I want five or six kids.

That maybe so but still overall the human race as a whole is becoming unsustainable. I think someone did the calculations and for the entire world to have the lifestyle the USA enjoys we would need the natural resources of 3 earth's. I don't know how you define over population but if our natural resource use exceeds the capacity of the planet I would say that we are overpopulated as a whole, regardless of the deviations of individual continents and countries.

That will be quite the handful
Kids are cute when they belong to other people but that doesn't mean I ever want my own.
This is true, thousands of square kilometres of land is being paved every year to make way for humans. Its not sustainable, but else would you expect when you introduce medicine, huge amounts of food, and no danger, into nearly every nook and cranny of the world? Of course the population will explode, and the humanitarians are they're own enemies in this case.

Heh, yeah. Now to find a girl willing to make that many babies.
Do people saying they would rather adopt think they could love someone else's child as much as their own?? I mean it's easy to say but really? I suppose you could be like ned stark with Jon snow lol, but you really think if push came to shove and he had to pick over rob or Jon he wouldn't have chosen rob
I'm gay so I'd have to adopt a kid or through surrogacy. Which I am undecided about really - the only time I would ever decide to have kids is if I was in a good position financially as I couldn't do it knowing that my child wouldn't be brought up the best way possible. And there also comes the obvious social stigma around gay couples having children, which makes me more unsure. Hopefully it's different in ten years time, who knows?
i don't think so. but i'm waaay too young to be deciding on anything that life-changing. i might change my mind one day, but right now i don't see my future self having kids. just lots of pets
