Safety Pins.

I was just wondering what everyone thought of the new Safety Pin campaign thing that's going around to show solidarity with immigrants. You can read more about it on this link: http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/29/britons-urged-to-wear-safety-pins-in-solidarity-with-immigrants-safetypin?

Its just basically showing respect and support like Paris and Orlando.

Tbh that's a pretty clever idea considering the abundance of such things as opposed to having to buy a poppy or something (poor example, ik).

Or just ACTUALLY help them by doing something when they're being abused. Most of the videos you see of this happening have people sat around staring like goldfish or just huffing and puffing.

I'm not wearing one, and don't intend to wear one.

Does that mean I'm a racist?

By taking part in this, you are creating and increasing a divide that wasn't necessarily present until someone had A Good Idea to do this.

I was about to say this, but anywho I do agree.

exactly the ladbible said the same thing (the ladbible giving good advise a first for everything I suppose)
just get up and deck the bigot in question (I'm a leave supporter and that makes more sense)

This is something that is commented many times on posts about this campaign, I like the idea of letting someone know that you are supportive of them/someone they can safely approach for help however if someone wears one and then refuses to stand up to such bigotry is makes them a hypocrytical.

I understand some people may fear standing up to someone irate or larger than them but this its usually a whole crowd of people who won't say anything until one person decides to challenge this behaviour. Perhaps these pins will let other people know they have back up in what they are saying when they stand up to people and they will be more inclined/feel safer to do so when they see these pins around them.

I don't think they are hesitant to get involved because they don't think they have back-up. This is just another form of virtue-signalling.
They will not get any support from me

Perhaps, I know as I've been reading about this and the videos that have been put online of people sitting around while abuse has been hurled and it has been mentioned that it is hard for people in a crowd to be the first one to say anything psychologically. I don't know, I was just thinking of perhaps how this could be helpful in this manner.

Pussies gon' puss.
I think it's a really nice gesture.
I really like the idea of doing that.
Obviously it's gonna be better to go and actually help and support people but this is a step in the right direction

If I aimed my hand at a group of people I would (quite rightly) be labeled a racist, surely the opposite is just as racist, this political correctness is wearing thin, that is why Brexit has won a majority. These socialists who keep screaming phobic need to be tamed, it is why the world is so bothered by extremism, they will never be happy until we are all living in filth.

I don't agree with labelling the whole of the Brexit voters as racists, other reasons caused a lot of people to vote out, i.e money and the promises made towards the NHS but it cannot be ignored that the amount of hate crime has increased by around 57% [according to this source: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jun/27/sadiq-khan-muslim-council-britain-warning-of-post-brexit-racism], I am not saying this is any particular group of people either but since this is happening I think this is why the Safety Pin campaign has come about.
I would not wear one, in fact I will actively look down upon anyone who does.

Lol my thoughts exactly!

Does the fact that I don't own or intend to own a multicolour flag mean I'm a homophobe?

This ****ing world lol
