Are you kidding me? You can sign on the dole at 18 before you have ever had a job.. There are people on JSA who have never done a days work, why would you think you need work exp? Many grads find themselves on JSA after uni, its no secret.

K. I'm not on about underage, they're children and if an adult can claim child tax credits for having children obviously a child can claim benefits for themselves :colonhash:

You have to be looking for work to qualify for like JSA.

I'm on about benefits like working tax credit, not child tax credit where you can claim breaks whatever your work situation simply for having kids. You're not lazy if you're working claiming working tax credit are ya. People just say "benefits" they don't seem to know there's different sorts to claim with their own conditions each. Just because someone's currently not working it doesn't mean you've never worked before. And there are people on JSA who have "done a day's work" what you saying.

I know some feckless lazy arse ppl who don't wanna claim JSA because of it's sanctioning and conditions like you gotta look for work and then you can start claiming working tax credit if the pay's not enough. There's people who don't wanna do that so they knock someone up and claim child tax benefits which they're entitled to, they can't be stopped although cut, and they live off of having kids and don't have to lift a finger. Just because this is true for some people who can do this with child tax it don't mean it applies to all benefits or people claiming em!?

I'd only look down on someone who chooses not to work and just live off benefits, so no I'm not going to look down on someone working in a supermarket ect....

People have different goals in life anyways - if they struggled at school for instance they may have dreamed of just having a job one day and so don't just think everyone working in retail must be depressed or something.

Yes someone working in retail at that age is unlikely to have been to uni or whatever but that's not necessary for them to be good at that job so I don't see what the issue is here

You can never look down on somebody who is working. Yes they aren't going to be well educated but you're always going to need working class people to do jobs like retail, caring, cleaning etc.

I know someone who's a retail manager. Apparently THE biggest fear amongst them is that the employees will leave as that looks really bad on their turnover rates. So 40+ year olds are attractive to them as they'll less likely to jump ship than college leavers.
