Why are so many socialists voting to remain and supporting corporatism?

The remain camp are the biggest bunch of hypocrites whom I've ever come across. We should remind ourselves that many on the left are self-proclaimed anti-capitalists, yet isn't it ironic that they're now supporters of being part of an economic trading bloc because it suffices their skewed political agenda? Sadly, the idealistic generation didn't vote to remain in the EU because they're worried about the economy, but because they see leaving the EU as a sign of hate, racism and xenophobia. Indeed, many of them have labelled everyone who voted leave last week those exact words. Although I accept many chose to remain because they were generally worried about the economy, those people are the ones who respect democracy and are working to ensure the best outcome for Britain post-Brexit. Sadly, our generation - millennials - are the most selfish and self-righteous people in the country and it's shameful given the incessant level of ageism and intolerance they've shown over the past couple of days. Thankfully, many of them will have to get back to their gender studies degrees next week and hopefully we can get on with our lives without them swarming the streets of London with their blue hair and trendy glasses.

jake4198, if you hate students so much why are you on a student message board?

Well, Fred or John - I'll call you John - just because I don't agree with what most of my generation says or does that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to speak on my own behalf. Although the majority of students did support remain, a sizable minority did not, and I find it strange that you're questioning my being here because I you say "I hate students". I don't hate students, rather I hate their hypocrisy when it comes to tolerance, respect and democracy.

rofl. what a a hypocrite. You are one of those people trying to force the Conservative party to take us out of the EU when there is nothing about this in their manifesto - NOT A SINGLE WORD. Talk about someone who is intolerance, lacks respect and hates democracy - THAT WOULD BE YOU...
Yes You... The Conservatives will need, at bear minimum, call an election before they do anything. They have no manifesto mandate to pull us out of the EU.

First off, calm down.

The Conservative Party held a referendum which was part of their manifesto promise. The overall majority of this country decided to leave the European Union, and that is an exercise in democracy which should be respected from all sides of the political argument. It is not intolerant nor hateful of democracy or respect to accept the outcome of the referendum which was part of the Conservatives' manifesto. There'll be no second General Election because parliament voted that each term in government would be fixed to five years.
I don't think you're really interested in the answer to this question given the fact that you completely dismissed my explanations as to why the arguments you have put forward are not particularly sensible and you've attempted to shut down my responses by (incorrectly) claiming that they're "just my opinion". You are not living on the same planet as the rest of us if you think socialism is going to be more likely by leaving the EU. The UK is more conservative than most of the leading countries in the EU and there is absolutely no interest by the UK establishment, even amongst Leave supporters, to support a transition to socialism. The EU has done a lot more to further socialist causes than our government has.

The EU funds some of our poorest regions, such as Ebbw Vale?

How is endorsing a substantial amount of funding for regeneration of our poorest areas not socialist, and supportive of corporatism?

AND the EU imposes Austerity on countries e.g Greece

So I proved you wrong and then you just go on a rant attacking me. Hilarious.

Where's that apocalypse all you remain voters predicted?

Agreed. Where is the apocolypse that Remainers predicted? Nowhere to be seen. That graph proves it.

ermm a few things... If this was so , why does France have max 35 hour week or Sweden give long maternity leave to man?

yet another pack of Brexit lies - the lists go on and on.
I should get a long list of all the lies told by Brexit students and publish them as a book of jokes when all this is done and dusted.

French working practices or germany worker directors are mates of corporates lollllllllllllllllllll

35 hours per week punishes the French. A lot of people cannot afford to live because they're not allowed to work enough hours to do so.
I've never understood this phenomenon either. It's instantly shut down when I bring it up

I bet quite a few know that Huxley never said that.

I stand corrected! It isn't in my edition and I'd seen it falsely attributed to the text of the book itself.

You don't seem to understand that we haven't left the EU yet.

As for the OP, the EU redistributes wealth to the poorest parts of the country while our own government is giving out more and more tax cuts. In the words of Rupert Murdoch himself when asked why he wanted to leave:

'When I go into Downing Street they do what I say; when I go to Brussels they take no notice.'

Yes, I do understand that we haven't left yet. What a moronic comment.

An austerity programme fuelled by those in Brussels. Go and ask Spain, Greece, etc. but lets not let facts get in the way of your ********.

Yes, good idea. Let Murdoch strike fear into you and dictate your life choices to you. Thats the way. What utter stupidity.

Then why are you declaring that predictions about what will happen AFTER WE LEAVE haven't happened yet? It hasn't happened because we haven't left.

Fear? Nope, just pointing out that the EU is less corrupt and more democratic than our own government.

That is your own opinion. It is not a fact. Stop trying to pass off opinion as fact.

You do know FTSE businesses earn 75% of revenue outside the UK and therefore artificially boosted by GBP fall? It's not a good short-term barometer of long-term UK fortunes.

I find it deeply depressing how few people grasp that value of FTSE100 is mechanistically inflated by collapsing £
