History- Wider reading + work experience?

Hi, I am currently in year 12 and have finished my AS exams. I am hoping to continue onto A levels in September. I want to study History at university next year.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest some books I could read over the summer holidays to put in my personal statement. I was also wondering if anyone had any advice for getting work experience that is history related?

Thanks in advance

You don't need work experience for history - it isn't a vocational course.

Thank you!
In regards to work experience, my sixth form is making us find work experience for 3 days next week so I'm not sure what I could do :/

Do something that would interest you...it doesn't have to be related to history but you could see if you could get placements in local libraries (including university or central libraries) or museums.

If you can't then anything that seems interesting is worth a try.
