Why do so many people want to study medicine?

Overworked, underpaid, diminishing respect. Yet there are 10 applicants for every university place. What's the appeal?

We need as many doctors as we can get in the UK right now anyways
And people have different aspirations and goals and a certain perceptive of a career path isn't enough to put people off

Social prestige, personal reasons, increasing salaries with every year, it will vary
Despite all the justified complaints from doctors, it is still a well paid, high prestige career that involves saving people's lives.
Most kids choose medicine because of the pressure from their parents:tongue:
Your either
-Doctor
-Engineer
-Lawyer
Or a FAILURE

Some people are there for the money and respect.

Some just aim to help ameliorate lives.

Most of them want both.

Its a field where you're almost always in high demand, compared to other fields.
It looks good.
It pays well, especially if you move abroad.
It's what you're family does.
It's highly stimulating for intellectuals.

Pretty much what all my Asian friends are trying to be
In the World, it is one of the best paid jobs. In the UK, still within the top 10. Plus there's lots of opportunities to grow in salary from being a high level consultant to owning your own private clinic. Plus, for some people like me, they love to give back to the community by caring for others.

It's true though

If you're an Asian guy and a doctor, all the rishtas come begging to you, and you get first pick of all the beauts, despite the fact most don't even have A Levels :colonhash:
