Putin: US / NATO is irreversibly pushing the world towards nuclear war.

Vladimir Putin has finally taken the kid gloves off.

The Russian president was meeting with foreign journalists at the conclusion of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 17th, when he left no one in any doubt that the world is headed down a course which could lead to nuclear war.

Putin railed against the journalists for their “tall tales” in blindly repeating lies and misinformation provided to them by the United States on its anti-ballistic missile systems being constructed in Eastern Europe. He pointed out that since the Iran nuclear deal, the claim the system is to protect against Iranian missiles has been exposed as a lie.

The journalists were informed that within a few years, Russia predicted the US would be able to extend the range of the system to 1000 km. At that point, Russia’s nuclear potential, and thus the nuclear balance between the US and Russia, would be placed in jeopardy.

Putin completely lost patience with the journalists, berating them for lazily helping to accelerate a nuclear confrontation by repeating US propaganda. He virtually pleaded with the western media, for the sake of the world, to change their line:

We know year by year what’s going to happen, and they know that we know. It’s only you that they tell tall tales to, and you buy it, and spread it to the citizens of your countries. You people in turn do not feel a sense of the impending danger this is what worries me. How do you not understand that the world is being pulled in an irreversible direction? While they pretend that nothing is going on. I don’t know how to get through to you anymore.

Does anyone in the reeking garbage heap that is mainstream western media have a conscience? Do they even have enough intellect to get what Putin is saying that they are helping to push the planet towards World War III?

I fail to see your point OP. Even if the NATO system can reach Russian territory (which is a good thing if anything) then we both know that NATO will not attack first.

Russia is being pinned down and they don't like it, fair enough. But why on earth would we pander to them. Russia is an enemy of the west and they should get in line.

Well done. Just when I think FullOfSurprises comes out with the most idiotic thing on this forum, you go and do even better.

a) We do not know that NATO will not attack first
b) Russia should not just get in line because we see it as an enemy

The US/EU is being intentionally provocative and by doing so is treading very dangerous water.

Are you suggesting that there's any real likelyhood that we are going to engage article 5 and attack Russia? A completely unrealistic assertion.

I can see why Russia could view western actions as provocative however there seems little reason for Europe or the US to sacrifice their self interest in order to appease Russia. Consider for a second that while Russia has nukes it is far from an economic nor military superpower and therefore there is little leverage it can use to prevent western expansion.

Out of interest, is it simply the fear of war that makes you believe we should appease Russia?

I'm suggesting that what you claim to know you do not actually know. None of us know what could happen and it is ridiculous to claim such.

I don't fear war because if it happens, it happens, so no. It's something completely out of my hands. However, I do not believe the actions of the US/EU governments are helping with the situation at all. I do not think Russia should be appeased nor provoked. We should be more clear cut on how we would respond to Russia.

If it attack any of us we'll attack it collectively. If it continues to govern itself without intervention elsewhere then we will also leave it get on with things.

It's important to realise that Putin's gangster regime is the cause of all this (or at least, the recent cause - the deeper cause lies back in the Soviet collapse and the bizarre extremist neoliberal capitalist experiment that the Russian people were then subjected to), not 'Russia' as such, if by that we mean 'the Russian people'.

That said, I agree that Putin's a threat, but he's also someone who could lie for the Olympics. He blusters about nuclear attacks pretty regularly, partly presumably because Russia is still rather weak militarily compared to NATO and also because it goes down well at home in the mix of phony-nationalism and neo-fascism that his government has developed, combined with a collapsing economy due to the low price of oil.

There is a real threat, as we've seen in the Ukraine, but if Putin was truly mad enough to embark on a war, he would (a) see Russia and himself and his super-rich pals go up in smoke and fire along with most of us presumably and (b) he would be destroying the only customers for his main product, oil. Let's hope these are as genuinely unlikely as they seem.

I don't think though that it makes sense to cultivate the fearful nationalism of Poland and one or two other E. European countries by pushing weapons systems into their territories. Apart from anything else, this tends to make it easier for Putin to run his propaganda. If we are genuinely concerned, we should be be developing reaction forces that can be speedily unleashed but from further back than the frontier countries. I assume NATO is playing its own games with these deployments, perhaps the big arms industries that stand behind the Pentagon see increased tensions with Russia as a route to more sales. Putin has a big arms industry to prop up as well, so maybe it's win-win.
Huh, I might have to move to Russia.

OP, why have you made the exact same thread 3 times?

Wasn't once enough *******s to be getting on with? Did you really have to show your ineptitude this many times?
He's completely right.

The next US president will be extremely pivotal in diverting this. Trump would scrap this plan, yet Clinton would carry on. Remind me again who's the scary one?
He should have trolled us by saying NATO can strike within 45 minutes
Who said this " true equality doesn't exist " ? Such a liar!
