Will Islam have more influence over public life in the UK?

I ask this after seeing a few things over the past week.

When a population of people grows, it is only natural that their cultural and religious ideals have a greater role in the country in which they live.

I watched an interesting documentary called "the Muslim Pound" which talks about the increase in halal food,dress, makeup, etc. on the high street: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07k1bhf/the-muslim-pound

Also, there is the petition calling for Eid to be made a national holiday which has gained almost 50k signatures: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/150516

So will we see more of this in the years to come? Personally, I am not bothered if Muslims have the opportunity to buy halal, etc. if they want to.

I think that religion will continue to have less and less influence in this country. I really can't see Eid becoming a public holiday, Muslims only make up about 5% of the population and god knows there would be an enormous public outcry. I wouldn't say no to an extra day off though :tongue:

Not in the short-term, I don't think. They don't quite have the numbers yet to successfully demand anything more significant than Sharia-compliant loans.

Long-term, it is something of a worry. :holmes:

There seems to be a clash between the increased secularization of the UK as well as the supposed islamification.

The former is definitely more apparent (and imo the latter is slightly exaggerated) and will seem to oppose any sort of rigorous Islamic influence imposed by Islamists.

Things like more halal food and stuff is just appealing to supply and demand. If a butcher lives in a heavily populated Muslim area, it would make sense for him to sell halal meat in order to make the most out of his business.

That only counts for early generation muslims. It normalises to the natuiional average after a while.

Islam will have a greater say in the public and political arena in the UK. It is the second largest religion in the UK, and is the fastest growing religion in the UK. Thus, it is inevitable for the influence of Islam to grow further more as highlighted by the aforementioned documentary.

Probably will get more influence, to be fairly honest i want them to have less

Islam will have more influence, there is nothing that can change that; Eid will probably eventually become a public holiday. And tbh, who cares if it does?

Accepting Eid means accepting Islam. Muslims will think that they are actually starting to take over, which will reinforce their nonsensical beliefs. I can't see it happening, but making Eid a public holiday wouldn't be a good idea.
