let's hope that the winners still want to be part of NATO*

Will they still want to join the EU?

Are the coup leaders willing to accept the red tape and rule by unelected bureaucrats in the Commission?
Disappointed this isn't terrorism.

Coups are so 19th century.

Erdogan is on holiday in Bodrum apparently.

That'd be why it's happening now, then. With a leader gone, it's the perfect opportunity to sow some FUD.

Planning and preparation takes a while; long enough for word to get around the ordinary troops, and then to their families, and then become a rumour among the general public

Just have to keep telling them it is a drill until they get to the objective and then tell them, "THIS IS NOT A DRILL, SOLDIER!"
Is it still safe to go to Turkey on holiday?...

A major early test for Boris Johnson to show his statesmanship.

It's good news for Boris. He offended Erdogan. This presents him with a fresh slate, and hopefully he can go about not offending the new leader.

I'm sure the foreign office will say something shortly as soon as they figure out what is going on.

Istanbul airport has just been shutdown by the military apparently if you are flying there.

Also possible your insurance will no longer be valid, they usually have a clause about coups and things.
Woah, WOAH< WOAHHHH

I would follow advice from the foreign office but the military literally taking the power from the police and government and it will probably be violent.

Start looking at your airlines, hotels and insurance's cancellation policies.
