This is just a meme you learned using your 30 second attention span. Turkey's history extends further back than the days of Kemal Ataturk, it was once the nation at the forefront of the Islamic Khalifa and with the rise in consciousness of Sunni Muslims this is the direction the people have chosen for their nation. This awakening stretches from Turkey in the west, to Malaysia in the east.

Modern Turks will become more religious than even they were during the Ottoman period.

oh my Lord
you ain't gonna listen to anyone

Is this aimed at the OP?
People don't want their country to become unstable which sometimes happens after a military coup, also is having a dictator bad if the people have a good quality of life? Look at what happend with Libya, the people are now way worse off according to what I have read

So I presume the Ottomans all disappeared in 1924 and modern day Turks popped out of holes in the ground

Ottomans aren't a nationality, and Turks =/= Turkey.
Are you suggesting Kurds don't exist because there's no Kurdistan?

It was, there's specific clauses detailing slavery.

They detail it in brief but they no where is it proposed as a necessary thing. It just wasn't originally outruled.

The military could have provided stability. You are naive if you think the Turks do not wish for Islamic rule.

OP is a nice guy, but he should respect the choices other people make in the same way that brexit should be respected. Not everyone wants to be European.

Not originally out-ruled means permissible. It's not hard to believe why, the early founders were Christians and the bible doesn't explicitly condemn slavery, the agricultural economy in the Southern states required that slavery not be outlawed, it was necessary for the unification of the States to resist foreign colonial powers.

The people of Turkey have come out in their millions to demand that the constitution changes and there is nothing you can or will be able to do about it. This is democracy, this is the will of the people and it will triumph.

Well that's what a cult of personality does to a citizen.

I'm just saying America wasn't founded around the idea of slavery, but Turkey was founded around the ideas of secularism and democracy.

Secularism yes? Democracy? Depends if it conflicted with Westernization. That's the important thing about Ataturk's legacy, he wasn't a democrat really, just a military officer who believed Turkey would be enslaved without modernising and tolerance.

Turks and Kurds have a totally different mindset. Kurds tend towards left-wing secular socialism, Kurds are not Turks and what should happen is that Kurdistan should be allowed to leave Turkey on mutual terms and enact their own system of governance and the Turks should be allowed a state built upon Islamic principles.

You're showing a total lack of respect for the Turkish people, literal racism. They are an intelligent people able to make their own decisions regarding the direction of their nation and you are arrogant in your belief that the only reason they may have for choosing not to be westernised, is that they were too stupid to see the magical wonders of selling out their values.

Well yeah, I never suggested their democratic right wasn't legitimate. I dislike Erdogan, but that doesn't mean I think he shouldn't be allowed to rule.

I'm not being racist. I'm not being racist against North Koreans when I note how the support of a tyrant like Kim Jong Il is mostly down to state propganda- I'm just not underestimating its power as you are.
There are vast swathes of Turks who are against Erdogan, so it's obviously a political/ideological discrimination I'm expressing, not an ethnic one. Don't resort to such inane buzzwords again.
If you think freedom and equality is "westernisation" then so be it.

He is the democratically elected leader and until he is voted out, he is in charge and is the leader with the mandate to rule. Freedom is the right to choose how you live your life and on what terms, freedom goes beyond merely conforming to the expectations of tsr member: RobML
