Is it worth taking a gap year even if you make your offer?

I don't know - is it possible? I would have thought that with the mountain of debt from student loans, it'd be a bit difficult..I've never considered it! Maybe I'll look into that.

Having said that, it's not the relaxation/break of a gap year that I'm after. I like being in education/being occupied. It's mainly about retaking some A2 modules to boost my grades.

Your student debt doesn't become payable until you are earning above the threshold for payment, so if you are having a gap year you are not likely to have to pay anything then.

I'd work on your self-confessed self esteem issues and recognise that if that is the problem, the solution is never as simple as retaking A levels, because there will always be the next thing along in a few moments. Get your head sorted out first, and imho that is likely to be easier dealt with by going to university and getting involved and having such a good time that your A levels will become trivial.

I truly hope that one day I even forget which subjects I chose at A-level :s-smilie:

You will. What is of paramount importance at 18 is of little consequence at 28, a distant speck on the horizon at 38 and by the time you get to my age you can barely remember what a school is.

Yeah, I'm not that arrogant IRL - I was joking. It's really the personal achievement I value the most (that and making my parents proud etc)

Don't underestimate yourself or your parents. My youngest got 2:2 and unconditional for MSc in a specialised field. He will succeed The important thing is he did his best and NO-ONE can do more than that. I for one could not be prouder!

It is people-a lot of people do it. I've even been forced into a gap year post graduation due to my masters application not working out. However, I've managed to get something sorted for 2017 entry, so it's all about saving up money, even though I'll get a scholarship of £25k for the year due to my 2:1.

If you make your offer, there's no point in wasting time retaking because this vvvv

As someone (or many people) have previously stated, once you're unpacked and heading to lectures no one will care about your grades, you all made it and the university sees potential in all of you as clean slates, no one is better than anyone else. Bragging about your grades would be a sure-fire way to rub others the wrong way.

You don't start paying off the "mountain of debt" unless and until you earn more than £21k a year. So if you are swanning around travelling the world you don't have to pay off anything (although the mountain of debt keeps increasing thanks to compound interest).

Yea, like all the apples you used to get every day. And thank-you cards each July.

All in the past, now.

Yay!
As someone who did not do as well as she wanted at her A2s due to severe mental health difficulties, I honestly say this: don't stress yourself out by resitting A2 modules. Take a gap year if you wish - and think that it will help your mental health - but don't stress yourself.

Be proud of yourself for actually sitting the exams and getting through it, for actually doing A Levels!
