Do you think children need siblings?

I'm the oldest child (girl, 21) and I have two younger siblings. I have 1 sister 19 and a brother 12. (13 this year).

Eventually, when I have my own children I'd like to have at least 2 or 3. As much as I argued with my siblings, I can't imagine my life without them. Plus when it comes to my parents growing old, it's nice to have sibling support just not financially but emotionally also. I want my children to have aunts, uncles and cousins to grow up with. I didn't have much of that, considering my Mums siblings are mostly in India except for one sibling which is here but her children are very young so they get along better you my brother. My Dads brothers, are just a pain. So, no cousins from his side but I did see them occasionally but never had much love for them so I'm glad I had my siblings to grow up with.

Obviously, it's not guaranted you will get along and be close with your siblings. Our parents always maintained that we have a close sibling bond with eachother. I do think it comes down to parenting if you're close with your siblings but not 100%.

What are your thoughts on this? ☺️

In addition to this, Indian culture promotes to have siblings or your children are missing out greatly (as they say). Therefore, there's more pressure to have more than 1 child 😕
I think it's always better to have more than one child. But life doesn't always work like that unfortunately. I'm glad I had a brother and would love to have at least 2 kids if I can.*

Not really - this is coming from someone with 3 siblings. As long as the child is regularly socialised with people their age they should be fine
No, it's more important a child has more in terms of education, travel, good food and experiences, than any siblings. There are some invaluable things that siblings only deny children, due to funds

I do agree with you to a certain extent, but I don't feel like I've missed out on anything. I only had 1 sibling growing up technically, as my brother came along when I was 8. I guess it also depends on if you can afford a second child.

I definitely won't be happy with one child, but that's just me.

I don't feel I've benefitted anything from having a sibling. I possibly would have been able to stay at private school, where I would have had a better education and happier time, had I not had a sibling, because of money.

Oh right. I'm talking about in future, when you have children your children will have cousins to bond with etc. When your parents are growing old, it's nice to have emotional support aswell and people to go on holiday with I guess.

May I ask how many siblings you have and the ages etc?
Having one child would mean the parents are a lot better financially, so will be able to offer that child more and support them in the future.
Yes Definitely,
I mean who wouldn't want to be compared to the other one and have the other one favoured over them? :gah:

I have one sibling who's four years older than me.

I do have cousins but we never see each other as we live so far apart. I don't consider them family as they're complete strangers to me.

I'm not planning on having children anyway (I suffer from fertility problems and there are more valuable things I'd rather spend my money on than IVF), but if I did, I'd only want one, as I'd rather give them more in opportunities. Having siblings and cousins doesn't mean they'd want to associate with each other.

Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb.
I have 7 children.
Its actually very important to have siblings. Single children tend to be more self centred, share less and are less caring etc. I really do not get along with my siblings occasionally, but I still believe its important.

Ofcourse there are always exceptions + this is my oppinion.

I guess that's true, but in future children should be grown up adults who should work for themselves and not be dependent on their parents.

LOL my family isn't favouritism.. But comparison is so there! Then again, if I didn't have siblings they'd compare me to cousins etc. I even get compared to my friends so I guess I'm stuck with it!
I have a sister, I would never have wanted a brother though. I think If I had a boy I might just leave it at that, at one, having a brother would suck.

I do agree with this to a certain extent, I think a child should have at least 1 sibling. I only have 2, not a football team 😂
