Is America really the greatest country in the world anymore?

Im usually a big fan of Michelle Obama. But I wasn't a fan of what she said at the Democrat party convention.

From BBC News:
'Don't let anyone ever tell you that this country isn't great, that somehow we need to make it great again," she said, referring to Mr Trump's signature slogan "Make America Great Again"."Because this, right now, is the greatest country on earth," she added'

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with Michelle?

Has it ever been?
Yes of course
It might have higher wages, but its medical care is more expensive, richest nation yet high inequality, you got a anti-immigration/lbgt party called republicans... I'd rather not live there.

Personally, I think it is.
I used to think so. But times change, and opinions change with it.

The current greatest nation is Switzerland
Depends what criteria you are using for the greatest.
I'd say its the one definite superpower, possibly followed by China.

I would say that India follows USA but maybe I'm just biased because i'm South Asian
I'm American. I think China is actually the greatest country in the world now, but America is still very powerful.

The height of American power was between the 1960s and the early 2000s. I'm pretty sure America will never be what it was prior to 2008 ever again, between Obama and the housing crisis.

Unless something can be done to reverse the trend the left has put us on towards European socialism, a weak military, and censorship laws, we'll be as irrelevant and useless as Europe on the world stage by the time Hilary gets done with us.

It's annoying... the left is always holding up Europe and the EU as an example of what our nation should be. But they always ignore the problems with it. And the fact that Europeans aren't completely happy with the EU.

Then youd be wrong. You might want to try and call it a regional superpower, but its not a superpower.

Dont think its anywhere near in world terms.

country full of idiots where nearly 50% don't believe in evolution, not something I would consider great. There are definitely great parts about America but when you have a population of total mouth breathers it's very hard to call it the greatest on earth.
It never was.

It's a slogan used by nationalists who have been indoctrinated by patriotism since birth and therefore know no better, it's a motto from the corporate CEOs who are enjoying living the high life that's been paid for by America's mass consumerist culture and want entice more people to come and live there from overseas so that they can fatten their wallets further, and it's a saying that reaches a nigh-dogmatic level when used by church leaders and goers alike who believe that god made America great while ignoring the colonists who murdered, raped, and forcibly removed the indigenous people from their lands so that they could exploit the natural resources contained within, ignoring the slavers who gave much of the south its wealth at the expense of the poor buggers working the plantations, and ignoring the many injustices that are still prevalent within the American social culture today that would cause a benevolent god to say "wat r u doing? 'murca, stahp."

Best country in the world? It's not even the best country in the North American continent.

Yes, it is, and justifiably so. America is the world's only remaining superpower.

In 50 years time, India will be a more prominent world super power than China if you consider the growth factors. For current times, yes I suppose you are right.

Be careful of relying on projections, especially 50 year ones. You need more than a lot of people.
