i dont know if i'd say death note was fast pace, but

code geese
deadman wonderland?
Fate series
jojos bizare adventure series
Neon genesis evangellion
soukyuu no fafner
Steins gate
zetsuen no tempest
Btoom as well

are some of the ones i can think of but its all personal taste.

i also didn't like psycho pass much.

I would suggest any of the following for a fan of Death Note:

Zetsuen no Tempest - Though the first half is far stronger than the second.

Kaiji - Not exactly fast-paced, but it certainly fits the 'mind games and interesting' criteria!

Rokka no Yuusha - Starts off like a regular fantasy/action series, but give it a few episodes and you'll see why I've grouped it with these others.

Spiral - The manga is considerably better, though.

Presumably you're also watching the two currently ongoing Danganronpa 3 anime, Mirai-hen and Zetsubou-hen? The first one in particular is more of the same murder mystery that made the first anime good.

i don't blame him, its like Naruto it has almost the worst amount of filler in a show at an estimate of 40-60%.
Elfen Lied
Monster
