never terrible to spend money on quality if you can afford too..

How good is higuain though? Dont follow the Italian league at all.. and every time I have seen him play he has just been a bit bland.

He's consistently been one of the best players in the league in his 3 year stint at Napoli (scoring 1 in 2 in the league in his first 2 seasons). Last season he scored 36 league goals which broke a 66 year record. Not an easy feat in Italy where often the top scorer is in the low 20s.
Don't think Higuain fits the image of Arsenal, he has horrible yellowey teeth. Would never have made the cut with Wenger's boyband.
Has Wenger said "Welbeck will be like a new signing" yet?

I cry everytime.
injuries could be our saving for once.. Per out, all our strikers out.. forcing wengers hand somewhat.

Apparently Coquelin is playing at CB in training.

It's too sad this is. Why is Wenger doing this to us? I honestly feel like crying :frown:

You never know, he might want Coquelin to play CB because he's planning on buying a midfielder but doesn't want to lose him from the starting XI
He's like a new signing.
Gazidis is saying we can't outgun rivals in the market. Nobody expects you to do that - all we expect is to buy players we can afford. He's a fool. Destroyed this club.

It's a shame, we thought financially we were in the green 3 years ago, and for the most part we could afford to compete with our rivals. But the market has inflated massively these past few years. Nothing has changed from our rebuild era really.

Market has inflated massively this summer because of brexit anyway. You guys can afford to spend 40M on a guy like Lacazette e.g.

You lot are just being cheap.

It's got a lot more to do than just Brexit, when players like Martial are going for almost $60m euros, Sterling for £45m and Benteke for £30m. Can't remember what else happened last year.

It's not that we can't afford to buy players, it's that the board thinks we can't.
The market has inflated, but premier league teams - including Arsenal - are all significantly richer too.

The thing is, if Wenger and the board know we can't afford the top players (and it's kind of their job to know, right?), then we should be out getting the players we CAN afford who might improve the team. Leicester, West Ham, Southampton, Spurs, etc. have all managed to do that pretty well recently.

What's the point of spending entire transfer windows messing about with Suarez's and Higuains and then coming out and saying we couldn't afford them anyway? And that's the reason we haven't bought players for any of the important gaps in our squad? It's just ineptitude by Wenger and whoever else - if anyone - is dealing with transfers at the club.

Of course there is general inflation but Sterling goes for that price because he's young and going to a rival.
Benteke for £30M is Liverpool all over, you can't really use Liverpool, City and United for this, Liverpool overspend for *****y players, Man City spend £41M in total for Mangala ffs. You got a better player in Giroud for a 3rd of the price. Chelsea got Fabregas for 30M and Costa for 32M.

Xhaka was bought for £30M.

Honestly I think teams are also willing to pay extra because they've got richer due to ridiculous deals. Chelsea with Yokohama tyres and Nike(even though they don't overpay much for players nowadays have the resources to spend a lot), United with Chevrolet, City with Abu Dhabi. Arsenal were able to splash on Ozil. I think it's ineptitude from the transfer team.

Basically FFP has failed.

Brexit doesn't have much to do with it. Sure the £ is weaker but top clubs definitely have funds set across multiple currencies. It would be crazy not to

Yeah obviously they have different funds but matter of fact is if you're paying for a player in euros across europe when the English media say the price it's going to be in pounds. E.g. the Higuain deal would have been £64M instead of £75M if it was done in January instead of June.

Same with Pogba. The deal is getting close to £100M but would have been £85M if payed for earlier in the year. The media aren't going to use the figure in euros(even if the club paid for it in euros and had funds in euros) they are going to convert it into pounds.

This summer the prices are looking very inflated and I guess other clubs are richer so can pay that price for players which adds to that. Arsenal therefore must be able to pay big for players.
You'll be fortunate to finish 5th this season
