The Student Room Group

How much will I most likely get as a student overdraft?

HSBC for example offer £3,000 but I doubt many people get that. Where are you mmost likely going to get the higher amounts?

Any particular bank to avoid?

For most banks its a gradual increase year on year, i think the highest i've heard of 1.5k from santander in 1st year.

Thank you. Do you know if the 1.5k is a common overdraft to be given or not?

Afraid I don't bank with them, I got 1k with my bank in 1st year.
I got 1k my first year then was offered the full £3000 for my 2nd year

Do you have any credit accounts or anything? Did you ever use the O.D?

Which bank is that? I might go into a few and ask whether they can give an estimate to the overdraft they can give me.

lloyds bank, they may ask to run a credit check to be able to tell you but there's no harm in asking.

Nope no credit accounts, I used it (and still have it) but I never went more than 1.5k into it because i hate being in debt. The reason they gave me so much was they looked at my families circumstances and because i get the minimum loan they increased my overdraft so it's there in case i need it.

Satander give 1500 as standard and you can request to increase it to 2500
